| Posted: | | | | Since the use of including digital copies in dvd releases is almost becoming standard the question arises. Is "Digital Copy" a part of the edition or is a feature. To me since the words "Digital Copy" is separated by the broke up dvd it isn't part of the edition. Such as this cover. Isn't Digital Copy a feature of the dvd and not a part of the edition field? In the above wouldn't only "Special Edition" be correct? I can't be the only one who thinks Digital Copy doesn't belong at all in the edition field since it's nothing more than a much hyped new feature. By including Digital Copy into the edition field there will be left out many dvds that do hype it on the front cover but isn't close to any sort of much used Edition name. Such as the following. I can't be the only one who is confused as why the inclusion of a dvd feature is allowed in the edition name. Maybe I'm just confused or something and I'm the only one. |

| Posted: | | | | I have to admit, in the case of the Hitman cover I would put "Digital Copy Special Edition". I don't think the broke-up DVD is separating the words. It reminds me of the Paramount covers, where the Paramount logo appears between the words Widescreen and Collection. | | | Last edited: by northbloke |

| Posted: | | | | I would not include it as part of the edition. For me, it would be 'Hitman: Unrated Special Edition'. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | It reminds me of the Paramount covers as well; in that's pretty much the same disaster. It's both about cramming data which has it's own section in DVD Profiler into the wrong field. It doesn't matter whether it's entering "Widescreen Collection" to hundreds of Paramount DVD's of which no full frame version even exists, or entering a feature like "Digital Copy" - both pieces of data have their own private section in DVD Profiler where we track them, and as such, they don't need to be repeated in the "Edition" field, IMHO. Anyway, I've locked all my titles, so I shouldn't really care, but I keep hoping the contribution rules for the "Edition" field will be severely tightened one day. |

| Posted: | | | | I agree Cubby, I wouldn't call it part of the edition field. It's more of a feature of the disc(which for now has to be OTHER) but I suspect will see a change in a future Beta.

| Posted: | | | | Rambo 4 also has a digital copy included for PC or other portable players. I would add that to the featurefield or under "otherfield" as Also include Digital Copy, or something like that. Although a DVD/BD is allready a digital copy of the master, but we don't adress all dvd's/bd's as digital copy? | | | "What's God?" | Posted: | | | | Personally I don't care for it and I remove it from my local db, but since I can forsee editions without the digital copy, I see no reason not to include it in the edition field. EDIT: I was one minute late. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 | | | Last edited: by Nexus the Sixth |

| Posted: | | | | Just to clarify, when I said it should be included for Hitman, I was only talking about Hitman. In general, of course it's an "other feature", but in the case of Hitman it's clearly labelled as an "edition", whereas on the Heavy Metal cover it's not and so should only be mentioned in the features section. Some people here seem to be suggesting that it's an all or none situation which it's not - it all depends on the cover as to whether it's classed as an edition or not. |

Which is exactly the problem in how we deal with the "Edition" field! Locally, I don't track video formats ("Widescreen Collection"), audio formats ("DTS") or features ("Digital Copy") in the "Edition" field - I just track those in the appropriate section. That leaves the field free for actually "distinguishing between DVDs, and for indicating special versions and collections" which it was originally meant for... |

IF a movie is released on DVD (Twister) with a DTS track and without a DTS track, isn't listing "DTS" a way to DISTINGUISH the titles in the EDITION field? Sure, that can happen. And in those cases, I will indeed use it. But that doesn't mean I'm going to start entering "DTS" into the "Edition" field of all my DVD's that have it plastered on the front cover - only when it's needed. |

| Posted: | | | | I would've thought digital copies would have gone away by now. Who's telling the studios that fans love them and make more? I know online forums are a small percent overall, but no one cares about these things, yet I keep seeing more movies re-issued minus all the real bonus features to have the "digital copy special feature". Only reason I've bought anything with a DC is that they force it on me to get other, real, special features. Just die already! |

| Posted: | | | | I have to agree with, Tim, on this. I still don't like entering Widescreen Collection for all Paramount titles JUST BECAUSE IT'S THERE. I have that information elsewhere on the very same page but....<gulp>

Now they are calling them 'Sepcial Editions' and charging for it them. Street Kings came out on Tuesday. The standard, single disc version, sold for $16.99. The 2-disc, special edition, sold for $22.99. I compared the special features on the back and the only difference between the two, was the second disc containing the digital copy. Had I not bothered to look, I would have spent $6 on a shiny coaster. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
