Hello,
i bought resently the german Best of HD DVD Action Box with 4 separate Boxes included:
- last Samuarai
- Mad Max 2
- Blazing Saddles
- Training Day

I can add the EAN of the Box Set, but not all 4 Discs, since i already own Last Samurai and Training Day as HD DVD.
I don`t want to delete the Information for the both Disc, but also want to complete the Box Set Content with all 4 HD DVD.

When adding Disc`s, DVD Profiler don`t let me add the same DVD again, since it`s already in the List!!!!

how to solve this problem?
And no, i don`t want to sell the double Disc`s in the Moment.

regards
michael

You can add the disc in the box set with its Disc ID, since presumably the stand-alone version is added with its EAN?
You need to uncheck the "download from Invelos" box when you add the new disc, and then copy the information by hand from the EAN profile. Not ideal, but not a great amount of work.

You can only read HD DVD Disc IDs using the beta version 3.5. Beware though: there are issues with running 3.1 and 3.5 side by side on the same computer. Check out the Beta Release Testing forum.

You'll have to wait until the new beta versioin 3.5 comes out of beta anyway before these new profiles by (HD DVD) Disc ID become contributable. Right now, you cannot contribute from version 3.5 yet.

I would recommend to wait until 3.5 has "matured" a bit more.

Thanks for the Tip,
but first, i don`t have a DVD Drive in my laptop; and for normal DVD this would work.
and second, i`m talking about HD DVD.
I have no Drive for HD DVD on my Laptop or Stand Alone PC to add via Disc ID.

So, i think here is a problem with DVD Profiler, that should be fixed some how.
Problem is, that the Box Set was not available in the Database; and often Box Sets are not stored with all the Discs included..
Can`t believe that i should be the only Person with this Problem.

If you have no (HD) DVD drive in your laptop or PC, all you can do is - by the time 3.5 is fully operational - to check if someone else has contributed your discs by (HD) Disc ID (Add DVD, Title Search).

In the mean time, you can create manual profiles for them as Staid S Barr explained (Add DVD, Add by Title).

And, of course, you can contribute the parent profile for the Box Set yourself.

Waiting for somebody else to contribute a HD-DVD may not be very fruitful, since most people consider this a dead format now.
In the future, we will see mainly DVD and Blu-Ray contributions.

True, but as they can't be contributed by Disc ID through version 3.1, they may still appear when 3.5 comes out of beta.

I think you guys misunderstood the thread starter's intention. His problem has nothing to do with contributing Disc-ID profiles for HD-DVDs.

He bought a box set with four HD-DVDs - all of these have perfectly valid UPCs and are available as stand-alone releases. Two of the movies in this box were already present in his collection, so he owns these twice now. He is asking for a solution to keep his old profiles as separate entries in his collection and simultaneously have them available as child profiles for the box set.

So the answer is: If you use the new Profiler version 3.5, create Disc-ID profiles for the two duplicates, but do not contribute these! If not, create two manual profiles. Since you have no HD-DVD drive, only the second solution (manual profiles) applies to you.

Ah yes, I got confused by the "add the EAN" bit.

Fully agree with Michael's recommendations.

Thanks for the Clarification Tigihof.
so is there a way to solve this Problem?
I don`t think this will be solved in Version 3.5?

Adding a manual Profil is not the best way, since every Entry has to be copied by hand,
there seems no way to copy a complete Profile in the Program and then to the Changes!

Hi,

If I understand your request I believe I have a two step solution.

The first step is to create profiles for the duplicate discs and then the second step is to create a profile which will simply be a container for the four new discs.

Step 1:

Put in one of the new duplicate discs and the profile for that disc should come up, as it's already part of your collection.

When it does click on the "DVD" menu.  On my version of DVD Profiler the bottom selection is to "Change UPC".  My guess is that your choice would be "Change EAN".  Whatever.  Select it and click on "Use ID from inserted disc" and then click "OK"  Now you'll be able to add that exact same profile again. Do that and then do the same for the second duplicate DVD.

(Because it's an HD DVD I'm not sure the above will work but the object is to change the disc information in such a way as to allow the addition of a second copy.  Consider the above as a guideline.)

If you haven't already "Add" the discs which are not already part of your collection.

Step 2:

Go to the "Add DVD" menu and click on "Add by Title" and the un-check the "Download profile from Invelos" box.

Enter any title which will be meaningful to you which describes the box set and then click "Add now to owned".

When the Edit Profile screen appears click on "Box Set Contents" and "Assign" the four discs to the new profile.  Make any other changes you might like and then click "OK"

That should do it.

If I misunderstood your request just forget everything!

Good Luck!

This is simply a complicated way of saying "Use Disc-ID profiles", which he can't do because he has no HD-DVD drive. It doesn't matter if you try to create a new Disc-ID profile or change an existing UPC profile to a Disc-ID profile - it doesn't work without a HD-DVD drive.

He has already downloaded the correct box set profile as indicated in his initial post.

topbaer, I'm sorry, but there is no other way than to create manual profiles. It is simply not possible to have the same profile twice in your collection (and this won't change in 3.5, unless Ken comes up with a big surprise). It is not that hard, since you can simply copy and paste the cast&crew data as you certainly know. Shouldn't take more than ten minutes for the two profiles.

I recently acquired a second copy of "About Schmidt" and by following the procedure I specified, I now have 2 copies of the Profile in my collection, the only difference other than the disc ID is the location.

"About Schmidt" is not available on HD-DVD, so what are you talking about ? Nobody doubts "your" method works in general (and I guess every forum regular knows this method).

In case you still haven't got that: We're talking about a user who wants to add a duplicate HD-DVD profile without having a HD-DVD drive. He can't create a Disc-ID profile without that, plain and simple.

TigiHof-

I'm not sure wherein the problems lies but I selected "Add DVD" , scrolled down the listing until I came to the first HD-DVD (1408) and Clicked Add Now to Owned.

I then went to the Dvd menu and from there changed the UPC to all zeroes.  I then added the exact same HD DVD again.

I don't have the 1408 HD-DVD but I have two profiles for it which are the same.

The problem is that you're saying something totally different now than in your suggestion above. You said: '...click on "Use ID from inserted disc" and then click "OK"'. This would be the attempt to change the current profile to a Disc-ID profile (and wouldn't work for the thread starter due to the lack of an appropriate drive).

Now all of a sudden you're suggesting to change the UPC "to all zeros". Yes, you are right, this is something nobody had thought about in this thread (including me) and it would work for topbaer. But that is definitely not what you had written above.

Anyway, creating a fake UPC is indeed a solution for this problem, topbaer. But do not contribute this !

Edit: Re-reading my last sentence I realize that I'm beginning to sound like Skip. Could someone please shoot me?
