| Posted: | | | | I was interested in some opinions on a replacement submission for a boxset for the Raquel Welch collection (upc 024543-114925). The current scans include the front cover, but instead of including the back cover- which is identical to the front, the bottom of the box, which includes the upc (and actually a list of all the titles in the box set) has been used. The replacement scans remove the scan of the upc and replace it with the back cover, which is a mirror image of the front.
Normally, I would think that the covers should be the front and the back. But I never took issue with this particular title because the only place the UPC is listed is on the bottom. I was always of the impression that the upc should be included with the cover. Otherwise, how can you be certain that you have the scans that match the correct upc (since we largely rely on UPC's to classify database entries)?
Is there any leeway for this? Or is this a follow the rules to the letter situation? |

But there are lots of cases of box sets where the front and back are different, but the UPC is on the bottom so can't be shown at all. That being the case, showing the UPC is not vital, so probably best to stay consistent and just use the front and back |

| Posted: | | | | absolutely follow the rules as written... there is a ton of cases where there is no UPC to show... a large majority of boxsets... and a very lagre majority of child profiles. (Thinpaks in a set seldomly have a UPC).
The Front and Back cover only rule is definitely one that should be followed to the letter. I know I would vote no to anything other then Front and back only... even if the front and back are identical. | | | Pete |

OF COURSE if the UPC is on the Front?(never seen) or the Back it should be included in the images, but there are numerous titles (usually from Paramount) where they choose for their own reasons to put the UPC somewhere we don't scan. <shrugs> Of course you S=should at the very least check that UPC oddball and make sure that it matches the Profile you are dealing with or trying to create.
I also concur with Pete and would do the same as him. Their is no provision in the Rules for what you propose, so don't do it.

| Posted: | | | | Sometimes the UPC is on the spine (often with newer adult titles). Actually I think placing the UPC on the spine makes some sense since it can be scanned by the seller while it's is on the shelf. But it isn't very convenient for us since we aren't allowed to scan the spine. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges. Holy crap, that is the coolest boxset design. Why can't they do a blu-ray release like that. I'm still tempted to get it and just put the blu-rays in it when they release them. | | | "Rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men" - Douglas Bader "A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools." - Douglas Adams | | | Last edited: by Vega |
