| Posted: | | | | So I did some searching through earlier posts, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of information concerning the cast lists for WWF (now WWE) DVD's. They all currently seem to follow different rules. Some list the actor under their real name, with their wrestling name being used as their role. Some use their wrestling name for real name with nothing for role. Others use either their real name or wrestling name with the title they held at that event as their role.
It does make it a little annoying that these are all done in different ways. Especially, since I own all the PPV's that the WWF/WWE has put out on DVD. It would be nice to look up say, Triple H, and see all the ppv's where he has wrestled in addition to the movies he has been in (which at this point I believe is just Blade Trinity).
Even more so, it would be helpful for those wrestlers who have had name changes in their career. I would like to be able to look up Shane Helms for instance, and see all the ppv's he has been in as either "Sugar" Shane Helms, The Hurricane or Gregory Helms.
So here is what I am proposing. I know there are probably very few of you out there that own WWF/WWE dvd's or care about this, but I wanted to go through and standardize all of the releases thus far. My plan is to make the "Name" be their real name and their Role be their wrestling name. If they held a title coming into that PPV, it would have a different format.
Ex:
Mark Calloway - The Undertaker Steve Williams - WWF Champion/"Stone Cold" Steve Austin
Additionally, since they all seem to be in a random order as far as who is listed first, I will order them as such:
The Main event wrestlers first (champion coming first if it is a title match, otherwise in alphabetical order of real names) The second to last match The third to last match etc. After all wrestlers will be any wrestlers who had just an interview or made a cameo apperance, followed by ringside announcers, backstage interviewers, the ring announcer(s) and the referees.
Obviously, this will be a work in progress for a while, as there are 112 PPV's through Wrestlemania 24 of this year (not counting the Wrestlemania or Royal Rumble box sets)... I will be starting with the first one in chronological order (unforgiven 1998) and then move through.
So my real question is, do people have a problem with this? Is there someone else already working on a similar project? Does this violate any of the contribution rules?
Thanks |

| Posted: | | | | I don't know how these DVDs are done... but the one thing you will have to consider... is how are they credited on the DVD itself?
Ken has specifically stated that for the online database he is not after the "real" name of the cast... but the most commonly credited name. (using how they are credited on each DVD and the Credit look-up tool on this site to see the most common credit) Which then can be linked together with the credited as field. Now the question is... at least for me since I have none... is how does wrestling DVDs handle credits? Is there some type of end credits? are they only credited as they come out? or what have you?
So sorry, I can't give you a straight answer for this particular situation... but can tell you how to handle the names per the rules. | | | Pete |

Thanks There are, or at least were, some people working on this. If I remember correctly, they set up some standards...though I don't remember what they were. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
