Buried under predictions that 2012 will bring dominance for Blu-ray over DVD and breaking news that the PS3 just may have had a hand in winning the format war the Entertainment Merchant's Association 2008 Annual Report on the Home Entertainment Industry holds survey results showing 87% of PS3 owners reported they watch Blu-ray movies on their console. That's a stark contrast to last year's NPD survey indicating 60% of owners didn't even know it played them. We don't know what's behind the jump, be it better marketing/consumer education, or something wrong with how one the surveys were conducted. You can mull that one over during the fast money round while also peeping results that say 22% of HDTV owners think they're watching HD programming, but in fact are not -- not like we haven't heard that before.

I think this can be explained by the fact that PS3 sales have increased while standalone Blu Ray decks have gone down.  Anybody who does even a smidgen of research quickly concludes that the PS3 is the best value BR deck on the market.  Especially once you take into account that it's upgradeable and actually keeps up with the ever changing standard.

That is a possible explanation.

I thought people don't get game consoles for Blu-ray players.  So, it can't be that people are buying PS3s for a Blu-ray player, right?

They are watching Blu Ray. But are they buying the Discs or just renting them?

Personally I'm buying them, but I'm rapidly learning to appreciate this site so I can pick up Region A releases and the strength of the £ against the $.

I have that site in my bar on firefox too. I rather bought Rambo at amazon.com for $22,95 instead of the $48.65 I would have to pay at amazon.de

I'm not surprised I found the site after somebody posted the link here.

Picking up Cloverfield Blu-ray for £10 seemed to make sense when the cheapest cost on DVD was pretty much the same.
