I recently noticed the extreme price differences between buying Blu Rays in Europe or the US.
Here is an example: The Movie "3:10 to Yuma"

This is at amazon.com:
Link to amazon.com
There the movie cost $ 14,95

Now amazon.de:
Link to amazon.de
Here the same movie costs 28,95€ which is: $44,56

I would say it's a big difference between paying $14,95 or paying $44,56 for a movie

Another example:
The new "Rambo".
amazon.com: $22,95
amazon.de: $47,67

What do you people think about this?

You are totally right. Over here we pay about 2,3€ per liter. In the US the price is about 1/4 of that.
(That prices if for premium fuel)

And I thought that BD prices were high over here. I guess you could always try to import them.

Unless you want specific subs to be on the disc, which is probably why i'm still buying DVD's.

So best is just to order at Amazon.com

Sometimes Free Record Shop has nice deals 3 for 2 or something...

I do order most of my Blu Rays at amazon.com
Like the "Dirty Harry" Box.
It cost about $80.
If I had ordered it at amazon.de I would have paid well over $200 for all 5 movies.

How is that with all the surcharges and VAT when it arrives in Austria?

Sometimes I have to pay VAT and surcharges, but other times I don't have to?

Here you have to pay VAT for anything (except books and some other things) thats price is above 45€ (though if i remember right the minimum taxable amount got higher recently?). But e.g. DVDPacific.com doesnt put the price to the package, so they often just go through the customs here.

Ordering clothes is probably the most taxed thing to order in EU. You pay VAT (22%), custom fee (3%) AND the EU tax for clothing, which is like 12%

In Austria you pay import tax for everything over 25€. The Vat would be 20%. plus 3% custum fee (that one only applies to more expensive stuff)

Often though even shipments which are worth considerably more slip through.

In here you pay 21% VAT + 3.5% Import taxes (plus some smaller fees like the forms price & stuff) on everything above 0€ if bought via internet (yes, I did write zero). Usually they let it pass if it's up to 20/25€ though, but it's always a matter of chance.

Hi,
I'm from Italy and I prefer to buy BRD over the internert instead of local dealers. Prices here are crazy too. For example "Resident Evil" is 19,90$ in US and here in Italy 29€ (around 46$)!!!
Thanks to websites like axelmusic, dvdpacific.com and thanks to DVD profiler I'm able to find out italian dubbed BRD, region free, sold in the US and I finally place orders here:

www.axelmusic.com  (imports US BRD but ships from Europe so NO customs taxes )

www.dvdpacific.com  (US online store that ships using standard mail services that fortunately are not "captured" by italian customs so no taxes are added  )

My last order from dvdpacific.com was of 3 BRD: Resident Evil, AC/DC Live from Donington, V for Vendetta I, paid 70$ (shipping included), should I've bought them here in Italy from the shop around the corner I would have spent around 126$ ....

Please majors drop down "international" prices or at most rise a little the US ones

Just my two cents

Max

PS: do somebody know some US online store to buy fuel too

When I buy in Germany I usually do it at amazon.de and I find that compared to amazon.com they are pretty expensive. I work at a big electronic Retailer. Even with employee discount it's cheaper to buy them in the US.

I just wait until Blu-Ray is almost at the same price level as DVD at the moment. I don´t buy DVDs which cost more than 10-13 € (about $15-20 or so). At that point a good hardware product range is available for reasonable prices too, I hope.

I don´t like ordering from overseas, I always have to go to the custom office ("Zollamt") and have to get the packages there and pay taxes of course. Don´t know why me, other guys I know do not have to go the custom office.

Best regards

Kai
