I am wanting to add 'Return to  House on Haunted Hill' UK HD DVD release and contribute it.  However, I cannot use the UPC (7321900169899) as it is already in the db as the Std DVD version of 'Message in a bottle'.

Looking through the forums most advice is to use the disc id method.  However DVDProfiler does not recognise HD DVDs in my drive so I can't do it this way.  Anyone have any suggestions on how I can add & contribute this HD DVD (other than just adding it as a personal entry)?

I am afraid until the new version comes out (soon now, I would think) there is nothing else you can do as that UPC/EAN and Disc ID is the only way to contribute to the online database right now.

Other then that... you could possibly msg Ken to see if he can make an exception for it. But what with the new version so close to coming out I am willing to guess he would pretty much say the same thing (wait for the new version).

sorry as Addicted2DVD says you have to keep this localy until DVD Profiler reads the HD-DVD Rom from your HD-DVD Drive on your computer. If these conditions are there then you can contribute to the online.

You could always add it as a manual profile for now.  I have a couple HD DVDs that are manual profiles at this point.  It sucks, but it gets the job done.  Fill out as much as you're interested in (or copy the data from another profile of that title) and wait for the new version to solve your problems.
Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here.
Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection.

No problems.  Thanks for all the replies.  I guess I will add it a a personal one and wait for an update.

Cheers again.

I would try to check if the Message in a Bottle profile is correct first. There is a possibility that it's incorrect, although with the new UPC system, the program automatically checks if it's a valid UPC, so I doubt it. But worth a try.

Beastus:

I just had a look, the profile UPC matches the UPC on the Cover for "Message in a Bottle".<shrugs> I know this is a common problem elsewhere but I have never experienced it in any Region 1 titles. The closest I have seen is when our beloved Hollywood issues a different version of a title without changing the UPC, (such as a Widescren/FF version, that is re-released as strictly FF) but the title is the same. I don't understand the whys and wherefores of the UPC/EAN conflicts. <shrugs>

So now the question becomes does he own the title yet, I gather that he does. After all he cannot contribute the title with a UPC that does not match the cover.

When you do a search on EAN: 7321900169899
in the 'Search by Barcode (GTIN)- Global Trade Item Number' it comes up with this result:

and further lookup in EAN Search comes up with this:

I wouldn't trust that site anyway.  The picture of the film is HD DVD but the title at the top says [Blu-Ray].

To SkipNet: Yes, I do own the title.  That is the reason I did want to add it as it is not in the DB.  I have added it as a local profile at the moment and I will just wait for an update to allow me to read the disc ID insted.  Once that is done the profile is ready to upload (scans etc already done).

....actually, zavvi seems to do the back scans of the titles. I don't own message in a bottle so I looked for a back scan of it.  It seems Warners have indeed duplicated the barcode:

Return to House on Haunted Hill

Message in a Bottle

The code/reference above the barcodes are different though...
