| Posted: | | | | I recently submitted a bunch of cover scans. Many people pointed out that they looked washed out. I have gone through all the original scans and removed the washed out look by changing the contrast and brightness levels of the scans. I'm wondering if I should resubmit all the scans that haven't been updated since my last submission? |

| Posted: | | | | If you mean the scans you previously submitted haven't yet been approved (or declined), then yeah, just go ahead and submit the new ones and they will replace the pending submissions for the washed out versions. |

| Posted: | | | | The original scans were submitted on 03/22/08 and approved on 03/26/08, i.e., Event Horizon, so I see no point in re-editing the same jpeg files and resubmitting. The problem with re-editing jpegs is this further degrades the image file adding more noise and compression artifacts into the image. The current images up for submission are too dark IMO. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

| Posted: | | | | I agree they look darker, but I looked around for information on scanning in color and most places agreed that most (if not all) scanners generate a washed out look. The only way to fix that is to tweek it in a photo app. I don't have anything fancy. Just GIMP. Overall I thought they looked a little better and made a better match with the majority of other scans when I scrolled through my collection.
I figured I would submit them and see what others thought. |

| Posted: | | | | If you are worrying about a match when scrolling through you collection then you should keep them local. We are trying to match the actual covers for the Online as closely as possible, the one of your I saw was of very questionable improvement if any at all.

Usually when i scan covers i do the basic rotate cropping stuff, and then i use histogram to get rid of the "washed out" look. Dont know where you can find it in Gimp, or if that was what you used. But if you didnt use, definately check it out, quick searcch from the help file should tell you where to find the tool. Edited to add, theres a tutorial for the tool: http://world.std.com/~mmcirvin/gimp_tutorial/levels_curves.htmlWhat i then usually do is i pick the cover in my hand and compare it to what i see on screen. Naturally everyone uses diffrent monitors with diffrent settings, but thats the only way to get it as close to the original as possible. Personally i cant "trust" people to vote on them, since half of my contributions dont get any votes. So if i think its better then the existing ones i submit. | | | Last edited: by whispering |

| Posted: | | | | Also keep in mind that the scans must be significantly different than the ones already there to be accepted. I have given the suggestion in the past, that you should be as specific as possible in your notes. Point out items where the screeners and voters can see the differences. For example, if you improved the colors, be specific about something to look at on the cover that looks significantly different from one cover to the other.
