Hi,

as some of you may have noticed I am going through my entire TV Show collection and checking the runtimes of the season/series box.

Sometimes the number in the profile is already correct, sometimes it's not.

But I have seen profiles for the first case where there's no documentation for the runtime at all. It came either in from the database move invocative->invelos or it came with the initial contribution, I don't know.

My point is no one can tell whether this number was checked by someone and the next guy could check it all over again.

I'd like to add a contribution note without actually changing the profile.

The note should still undergo the voting/screening process to prevent BS notes IMHO.

That's a great idea, sort of a "validation note".

If you remember Karsten, even when Invelos first started up no contribution notes were required anyway, even for new contributions.

Until I suggested it one day, then it became a requirement for notes for all contributions, yes everybody can blame me now. But at least we now have notes from the first onset, nine times out of ten the running times may have been added by referring to what is printed on the cover ie.
EAN: 5050582448627
Title: Battlestar Galactica: Season 2
Running Time Approx: 945 Mins

Bolded is directly from the slipcase (underside), I have not done a full audit yet, but when I do if the run time is different I will contribute this and state in any notes. But at the moment I see no reason for adding a note to an already accepted profile just to say run time unvarified. If your submitting a note to this effect why not just submit the updated run time?

I would expect a note in any upcoming submission about run time to say either From Cover or Varified With program x,y,z.

Steve, you misunderstood me. I don't want to state that the time is unvarified but instead I want to confirm it if it hasn't been previously documented.

I would still refer you to my previous posting

So if you, me or Fred down the road were doing an audit of a title and found the run time incorrect then a new submission would normally be forth coming stating the reason for the change, else you take the contribution as read.

You are currently going through your collection, have they all been wrong?

So if they are not wrong, why do you need a conformation that they are not wrong?

But if you find they are incorrect they I suppose you will submit the correction along with documention.

Of course not.

I'd just like a confirmation that they are right. I am a lazy guy. I don't do work another one has done before me. But when there's nothing in the contribution notes how am I supposed to know whether anyone has ever verified the number?

If there's nothing in the CN, I verify it. But what happens if it is correct? I am happy, yes. But what happens when the next guy comes along? He looks into the CN, finds nothing and does the work all over again.

I think it's a great idea.
Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here.

If you really want to add a contribution note without contributing, you could always make I tiny change in your profile, contribute, and immediately withdraw your contribution. Your note would then stay in the contribution history. But I would not recommend such a behaviour.
