Would be great to have a place on Invelos site to share cast/crew pics.

It helps me put a face on the name of the cast member of my movies but there's a lot of cast members that give me hard time to find there pics.

Could put a list of them with all the pics that people share so we can choose the one we want to use.

Not at all possible due to copyright issues.

And it will take a lot of place on the server if everyone could place is cast and crew pictures on the online database. That's why I don't upload them in my phpDVDProfiler collection even if it's possible.

Be advised however of the Copyright issues mentioned by 9Ball. Most pictures of celebrities are Copyrighted by somebody. Use of the Headshot database while nice is also a Copyright violation, the Copyright owner is not being compensated but his work is being copied and SHARED. The key word is shared. Personally speaking I build my own headshots which I share with no one, that is legal. The liabilities involved in Copyright are far too severe for me to run the risk no matter how miniscule that risk might be.

Frankly I am shocked (1) that users are willing to engage in an activity which threatens EACH and EVERY user (2) that also exposes Invelos to the same liability and (3) that Ken has allowed it to remain becuase of the risk it poses not only to other users but to his company.

Why don't you just run a full page ad somewhere announcing that We are willfully breaking the law.

I agree with you on this one Skip. My headshot database countains screen capture that I've done myself, but countains some  picture taken on many different internet site (some of them clearly owns the copyright), so if I don't share I see it as borderline as personal use but share them it's an invitation for legal trouble.

There's gotta be a legal way of doing this. Many celebs have pictures for free on thier websites with no copy right notices attached or what about photos in public domain collections?  I work and have other obligations I don't have the time to take screen shots or to find pictures. I also would like consistant quality for the headshots which screen shots and web pics don't provide.  I truly honestly think these copyright laws are dated and need to be reviewed.

Just use the headshot database if that's your concern.  I mean half the folks in this forum are using avatar pics that they didn't take themselves.

RK:

Relative to whether you OR I think the Copyright should be revisited, does not mean go ahead and break the law. Yes there is two legal ways to do it, build your own database (that would fall under the fair use part of the law, as long as you don't share them), the other way is to pay the copyright holder whatever amount they might require to allow you to license the images for sharing, which would not be cheap, once you start mentally thinking about the number of DIFFERENT copyright holders you would be dealing with.

To give you an example, several databases similar to profiler license the use of IMDb data for their database and they are all substantially more money than Profiler to absorb the cost of licensing that data.

As for the time issue and having other things to do (we all have the some problem to ne degree or another), not meaning to put you down...but come on you have less than 200 titles...that's a piece of cake to manage compared to many of us.

What makes you think you would get consistent quality...you won't. Have you looked at head shots, the quality is all over the place.
