I had contributed data and images for The Golden Compass and while the data was accepted, the images were declined. I looked and there were no comments (at all) so no mention of any reservations of the images. There was also no explanation.

Anyone have this happen and if so, any ideas of why something like this would be declined?

I don't normally do the images so hasn't happened to me. But there is a couple of things I know of that will cause a decline.

First... Did you scan the image yourself? if you used images from the web... if there was any watermarks (site address, Copyright Material...) that will cause a decline.

If you scanned yourself... there has to be a significant improvement compared to what is there already. (If there is an image already in the database).

1. Yes, I scanned it myself
2. There are scans in there, but the back is not of the slip cover which mine are. Strangely, the front is...

That's OK. I just resubmitted it. Not a real big deal, it's curiosity more than anything.

Gerri has also noted in the past that it's a good idea to point out in the notes why your scans are better - gives them an idea of what to look at when comparing them for approval.

Yes, but the one's in the DB were obviously taken from either New Line's site or a DVD news site. The current front has the DVD logo in the corner, the actual case does not. Also, the current back cover is of the keep case not the slip cover (that too is a noticeable difference and obvious it's of the slip cover). Now, I didn't specify that my scans were of the slip cover so maybe that was why.

In any case, I've resubmitted so hopefully now they'll be accepted...

I don't think there are usually any messages given when images are declined.

As northbloke said, it's better to always say in detail why your scans are better...even if it seems visibly apparent why they are.
