| Posted: | | | | I just upgraded to the newest version of DVDProfiler and it will not start. I get a MS error that says it has to close the application and aks me to send an error report, which I do. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. I'm running WinXP Pro. I never had any problems with the older version of DVDProfiler.
I discussed this with technical support, but they were unable to help me and suggested posting here. Has anyone see this issue? I've tried holding down the ALT key while starting and it still crashes. Here is the debug output:
Holding down the ALT key still crashes:

| Posted: | | | | I see you registered here on October 18, 2007. If you just upgraded to the new version of DVD Profiler then why is the Date reported by this error report from October 19 of 2007? Perhaps the zip file you downloaded was corrupted during download. Try downloading the zip file again, uninstall the new version of DVD Profiler and reinstall. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection | | | Last edited: by Bad Father |

| Posted: | | | | Sorry, I cut and pasted the post from the conversations with Tech support. I am revisiting this issue now that I have rebuilt my WinXP PC from scratch. The errors are exactly the same, so I did not see the need to update with the new debug log since it is exactly the same. Thanks. |

| Posted: | | | | That could be a difficult one? what is your confiuration? XP Pro and in what language is it running? you could download these and run the programs: SIW - System Information for Windowsthere from download, download the installer, install the program and run it. It will you give you a lot of information: 1) Operating system: From this screen we need the - name of your XP Pro - Windows Update's version number2) Hardware System Info: From this screen we need the - Manufacturer- Product Name3) CPU info From this screen we need the - Number of CPU(S)- Vendor- CPU Full Name[li] process explorer[/li]make a folder Process Explorer in your c:\Program Files\ unpack the zip file and copy those 3 files in there. run the program go to its menu: options choose the second option: Replace Task Managergo to its menu view: select bottom option: Select columns [x] Description [x] Company Name [x] Version click OK Now you exit the program: File: Exit next step press simultaneously these 3 keys: [Ctrl] [Alt] [Delete] the program starts up and displays all running programs like this: This an Dutch XP PRO 5.01.2600.2180 running very clean: all we have to do now is find some one with an comparable XP Pro on simular hardware that has DVD Profiler running and compare the differences. The program allows also to shut down running Process Tree. You just right click on a process like iptray (temperature control program in this case) and select Kill Process Tree - uninstall DVD Profiler - Download DVD Profiler 3.1.1 (Build 1171) here- close all not essential programs - set your desktop to a standard resolution if not the case (1024 x 768 pixels) - see if the program runs, if error, report the error here. do you have an upload possibility for screendumps? If not take a free account at Photobucket. When uploading screendumps be carefull not to include your software serial numbers (XP Pro, ...) | | | Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. | Posted: | | | | What kind of error is reported by Windows? Access-violation or something different? If it is an access violation what CPU do you use? In any case try to post a screenshot of the errormessage (with details). What security software is running (virus / firewall / anti-spyware / etc)? Does the error occur with all of these disabled? When you rebuilt your system did you use "tuning software" to improve the performance of your PC? If yes, which program did you use and which settings were made? Is the latest version of the NetFramework running on your Computer? EDIT: Is your computer supplied with the latest updates? Try running "Windows Update" and install all applicable updates (except the additional programs which are not needed, like Messenger, Silverlight, etc) Sorry if this seems a little like fishing in the dark, but you didn't give us too much to start with. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | Try holding down the Ctrl key when you start DVD Profiler. This will start the program with the default application settings.
If that doesn't work, try removing any plugins or translation files and start Profiler again. | | | Last edited: by Telecine |

All virus and firewalls dissabled. Quote:

I didn't perform any tuning and I have .Net 2.0 installed Quote:

Sorry if this seems a little like fishing in the dark, but you didn't give us too much to start with. All updates have been made. Ran multiple times to make sure. |

If that doesn't work, try removing any plugins or translation files and start Profiler again. Didn't work. I also tried "Alt" which disables plugins. Since I've never been able to run the 3.1.1 version, I wouldn't no how to remove plugins. |

I'm sorry, but this is a little too involved for software that I have paid for. I still can't believe that tech support sent me to a public forum. They can charge me for the software, but they don't support it if I can't install it on a standard XP Pro build? I didn't install anything on my PC after building. This is very frustrating. |

| Posted: | | | | We all have paid for our software and DVD Profiler is running happy on a standard installed Windows XP Pro, as you can see by the last screenshot. The last program in that screenshot is a running DVD Profiler. So we are trying to help you to figure out why yours is not running. To even try we need some basic information. How else can we locate the problem. There is a lot of folk arround willing to give you their time. | | | Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. | Posted: | | | | My personal proposal: If you have a recent backup file (ends with *.dpb) try this (if not, you have to start from scratch after this procedure...): Uninstall current profiler and remove all existing profiler files including the profiler related files in the "my documets" folder (e.g. C:\documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\DVD Profiler). Install the latest profiler and start the programme with an empty database. Does the programme crash? No? If not restore now your backup file. If the programme crashes now after a restart, the problem could be your existing backup file (corrupt and/or incompatible to the current profiler version). Disclaimer: Please consider this just as a personal recommendation; I'm not tech support but I try to provide some ideas for your problem solution! | | | Thorsten |

I'm working as an administrator and up to now never met anything like a standard XPPro installation. All computers are different by hardware setup and software configuration. If we don't get at least the absolute basics (CPU-manufacturer and type, graphics, mainboard chipset, installed software and software running while attempting the installation) neither we, nor anyone else will be able to help. @ appell: BTW this, as you slightly disrespectful called it, "public forum" is stuffed with computer professionals of all levels, the knowhow that can be met here is quite unique outside of technets. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! I held out rebuilding my machine for the longest time and now that I've done it, its for nothing. I've downloaded the diagnostic software and I'll try to get the information you requested. |
