CLT, should credits as Cast and as Crew be tallied separately?

The Credit Look-up Tool shows all kinds of credits together, both as Cast member and as Crew member.
I think that two kinds of issues can arise from that.

1. When there are two namesakes, one being an actor and the other one a Crew person, the CLT will add and mix their results under the same name.

2. If a same person actually is both an actor and a Crew person, but is credited with a different name when credited as an actor or as director/writer/else  (example: Japanese actor/director Takeshi Kitano in "Brother", credited as "written, directed and edited by Takeshi Kitano" but also as "Beat Takeshi" in the Cast credits), the CLT will provide a unique Common Name anyway, while he wanted two separate names (at least in that movie).  I mean, a separate tally might (or might not) sometimes show two different Common Names for the same person as an actor and as Crew person.

What do you think?

This is a programmer question, completely beyond our control, it has also been discussed several times, I have no doubt Ken is aware.

You can have a doughnut.

Seriously: the same could be said for open credits and other things "completely beyond our control" that keep coming up, so what?

My point Enry, is that despite what many believe there is nothing new under the sun. It does us no good at all to discuss, recuss and cuss some more things which we have no control over. We operate on Ken's timetable, not ours, it was FIVE years from the time I saw the first comments regarding Crew data beyond director before we got it. You are a fine example, since you came on board, you have brought up many worthy subjects...not one of them was NEW, sorry to say that, but true. Most of the comments you see me make are comments that are so old and have been made so many times...that sometimes I think I should start typing "this was a recorded message".

Ken does what Ken does and some fine Monday we will find a new version of our toy to play with, until then...<shrugs>

Fried + cake.  Makes sense to me, now.  I just a doughnut, like a rose, by any other name smells -- or in this case tastes -- as sweet.  I'd just never heard the term before.

Back in February, Gerri indicated that birth years for someone should be propagated for both cast and crew entries of those persons - also when it's only needed in one of both sections. Here's the link. That leads me to believe we're to use the same "common name" in both sections, determined using both someone's cast and crew credits - maybe cross-linking is really coming our way at some point in the future. I sure hope so.
