So I noticed today someone submitted covers that he/she edited by changing the contrast of the existing cover and/or slicing it....the text on the newly contributed cover was the same or worse. And the color doesn't even match.
How annoying is this, especially when a lot of people vote yes!
Will the invelos 'committee' have a final say in accepting an image contribution? Will they look with a real critical eye?

they look with a professional eye.
Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Please include the sources for your changes in the contribution notes, especially for cast and crew additions.

Yeah... from what I have read Gerri said it must be a significant improvement... but still have to remember... they seldomly have the actual case to compare it to. so if the colors are wrong compared to the actual case be sure to mention that in your vote.

I've seen about 15 of these over the last couple of days. Either the black level is upped so high it's losing detail or the colours are too harsh. I've been voting no to them all but I'm one of the few dissenters it appears. The UK profile for 'Dead Man's Shoes' has many yes votes with my solitary no, despite the cover  losing a lot of smaller detail.

I've seen a lot of these too - all from the same user. I voted neutral on a lot of them because I thought it was just my eyes. Everyone else was saying how sharper the images were and I was looking and thinking "it's the same one..."

The rules don't cover this apart from in the opening line where it uses the phrase new scan. I would be interested what the take on this is. If they are actually editing someone else's scan then is that OK?

It's OK, but the ones I have seen thus far any improvement if any at all has been marginal.

I've added mine to this one, the white border on the back cover, which isn't brilliant on the existing scan, has gone altogether on the new submission.

I voted NO on one of them, because all they did was deepen the black levels. I could tell it was the same scan, because the user did not bother to clean up any dust specks or scratches on the original.

Glad I don't have those - I'd be spending all my time with my face inches away from the monitor comparing them.

You know, I have been submitting a lot of cover art lately and I can tell you that I appreciate anyone who spends the time to take a look and let me know what they think - well, most anyone:  Skip has yet to give me a positive vote or reamark on any subject and unless everything I do really is crap then it seems to be a personal issue rather than an unbiased opinion.  The vast preponderance of my contributions, both profiles and pictures, are accepted from Invelos though so I don't think my cointributions are all crap.

I will admit that I have problems with color differentiation.  I'm NOT color BLIND, but I do have issues with subtle shades of red and green; therefore, I do review my contributions frequently and when there are specific remarks of a more technical nature coupled with NO votes, I will withdraw the submission so I don't waste more people's time.  I DO appreciate the effort and feedback and please keep it up!  I will frequently vote a thumbs-up for a no vote that genuinely helps me - as well as for yes votes that are equally informative.  However, when the no votes are for more subjective or aesthetic opinions I will leave the scans there for votes and a decision.

Anyway, I never never never take an existing scan and attempt to doctor it up.  I can't believe there are people that do that!  I mean, WTF, over!!!

I cast 50-100 Contribution votes every day. I have nothing against you, if I find your work wanting then it is wanting, very simple.I judge the data and the Cover images as i see them nothing more or less. I would suggest that if you have problem, try PM'ing me instead of launching a personal attack in the forums. There is limited space to provide detailed comments in the Vote notes. I am very easy when things are done properly, the only thing I will say relative to yourself is that my database here has drawn attention to your work so I give it more attention.

In short pay attention, it is not a popularity contest, nor is it about getting your name in lights. It is about building a database according to the rules, nothing more or less. You don't score points by ignoring comments and saying well the majority goes with me. If your data is incorrect for whatever reason all you do is set the stage for someone else to have to correct data you should have done correctly to begin with.

All it takes is ONE user to point out problem that needs to be fixed, ignoring comments gets you nowhere. It does tell me that you think it is a popularity contest and not about submitting accurate data.

Well, if you do not have a scanner or exactly the same cover it's the only thing you can do except waiting for years until someone contributes new scans.

Found out that most of the covers that were edited were approved! Probably cause a lot of people voted yes...
The Story of Us dvd has the front cover on the background of the back cover for crying out loud... 7321931025812

I did not accept the changed images and scanned them myself.

Anyway, this person keeps on going....

Realilty check: your user profile indicates that you've cast 7757 contribution votes since March 13, 2007. That means about 20 a day.
