| Posted: | | | | I always had a problem with his story: FRANCOIS = François! I wanted FRANCOIS=François, and Gerri said FRANCOIS=FrançoisSo I did some more research in "La France" telephone directory France Pariswhere I performed a search on the first name Francois this came up: Acquaviva Francois Adam Francois-Xavier Adam Jean-Francois Adje Sanle Francois Adjolohoun Francois-Xavier Akle Francois Alcaldé Francois Allard Jean Francois Allegoet Francois Allix Francois Almendros Jean-Francois Ameli Francois Anberree Jean-Francois Andreani Jean Francois Aoustin Francois Archer Jean Francois Ardonceau Francois so as the case stands now, even in France: FRANCOIS is not always François as he wants. As a French citizen he should know better then that and come here in this forum and tell some stories. Be carefull reading his fairytales. | | | Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. | Posted: | | | | I know. I have also within the same credits both Francois and François, not to mention I have also seen FRANÇOIS, which I beleiev would be incorrect under French Rules of Capitalization, which we all know that Hollywood religiously follows the Cap Rules for EVERY language on the planet.

François cannot be Francois in France , tough it would be pronounced "franKoa" (from country FranK ???), intead of Franssoa (from country France). I already noticed that you loved to contradict me, but here you are totally ridiculous... | | | Images from movies |

FRANÇOIS is not at all incorrect, it was just impossible to use it in the past with printing and old typewriters. The habit have been taken for centuries and are still in use, but FRANÇOIS is perfectly correct. | | | Images from movies |

| Posted: | | | | I know.... we send everybody post cards and request them to fill them out, including BY and various name variants and what THEIR choice would be for Common Name. Who wants to pick the bill on the postage...both ways...of course. Then, of course, we have the data entry once all the cards are returned, I know the perfect person to do this part of the work, surfeur51. I have a feeling we would get some very interesting responses. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

If you want to be sure, do as DJ Doena suggests, and call only one person who has Francois as first name and ask him if it is correct... But in your list, you seem to cite people who have Francois as family name. Though I think it must be very rare, Francois could be possible as a family name and pronounced FranKoa. | | | Images from movies |

| Posted: | | | | By your own admission, surfeur.
You now admit that FRANCOIS=François SOMETIMES and Sometimes FRANCOIS=Francois
How is EVERY user to enter the data correctly EVERY time with any certainty other than the film credits? By the standard that you pushed for and has NOW been absolutely disproven, we would be highly likely to have bunch of bad data. Because FRANCOIS does not necessarily mean François and there is no way for EVERY user to be able to properly interpret it based upon the data On Screen. I suspect that there is not even an EASY way, based on the data On Screen, for a French speaker to ascertain the difference between François and franKoa without some specialized or highly personal information.

You are not only ridiculous, you are dishonest. We were speaking of François Truffaut, and of first names. I only wrote that it is not impossible that a family name of Francois could exist, though I'm quite sure it would be very very rare. End of this discussion for me. To discuss with so narrow-minded people is useless. | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |
