The above is a picture from this link.

My contribution is based on this post in the forum. If there are two or more people with the same name we need birth years to distinguish them, I just did not find them yet. On the other hand we need to have a common name for the Supervising Sound Editor Mike (Michael) Hopkins to tie his credits together.

I see no information that defines that Michael the Sound Guy and Mike the ACTOR are the same person, would someone care to verify that BEFORE trying to assign a Common Name.. While it is POSSIBLE they are the same, I think in this instance it far more likely that they are NOT the same person.

I also do not think they are the same person and I do not claim they are, but I am almost certain that the "sound guy" is most commonly known as Mike. I can't help it if there's another person with the same first name, I just want to tie all of the sound guy's credits together.

I think you are correct, martin. Locally the BY would not be needed, in theory, since at this time the Crew and Cast Dbs are separate. But Online they are not so BY data would be necessary to keep the Actor separate from the Sound Guy.

In fact for this particular case it would seem that the CLT would be worthless without a BY to separate the results for one from the other.

should we not first veify his movies and see how his credited? Then compare in his movies what are the most credited names?
Mike Hopkins
Michael Hopkins (All the LOR he's credited Michael Hopkins) so is he in Heavenly Creatures (1994)

There are a lot more people named M. Hopkins.   So, this is not just a problem for the sound guy's credit.

It's about a sound editor and a film editor, Skip - both crew, so even locally you'd need a birth year. This is actually quite a common problem: multiple actors or crew members with the same name, while no birth years can be found. In these case, the argument could be made that as long as there's no birth year available, Michael Hopkins should be used for one of them to at least keep them apart... Although it seems nearly impossible to create a rule to handle this, we have to do SOMETHING to distinguish between them.

and ask him what film or tv productions he worked on? He could be none of the above.

Well I did and spoke more than 15 minutes (which cost me almost 12 euros) with him on the phone, and he informed me that the other Mike (which full name and most credited name is Michael) Hopkins who also works on Sound Crews, lives in New Zealand, did not worked on half of the movies that are mentioned on this page of the IMDb. So, I shall withdraw my LotR contributions because they are incorrect.

Martin,

congrats for making the phone call. Can you give more details what Mike Hopkins (AMPS, GBFE) (SOUND) did work on? And have you also details on Michael Hopkins of New Zea Land?

Most of the credits in the IMDb without "(as Michael Hopkins)" are made by the British Mike Hopkins.
