| Posted: | | | | Class is now in session. There may be a pop quiz. The Rules state: Studios List the Studios in the following priority. * Theatrical Release Studio(s) * Production Company(s) * DVD Distribution studio(s) if there is room available. Do not abbreviate Studio names. e.g, use Universal Pictures not just Universal; The Criterion Collection rather than Criterion or Criterion Collection; Walt Disney Pictures not just Disney or Disney DVD. Exception: If the studio name is too long to fit, use standard abbreviation rules. There is further information about correct names for studios, and the opportunity to ask questions if unsure, in the Contributions forum. There is no such thing Distributor wise as Dimension Home Video, Touchstone Home Video, Hollywood Home Video or whatever. All of thses companies are, or were until VERY recently, divisions of the Walt Disney Company. All film to DVD products, again until very recently, are released by a SINGLE entity, that entity was Buena Vista Home Entertainment. The various Home Video divisions are simply producers of the DVD for which that particular film division was responsible. This can be easily determined by looking at the bottom of any Disney Co. related film, the fine print on the back will always say DISTRIBUTED by Buena Vista Home Entertainment. Therefore, at this time we do not use the various DVD producers within the Disney Company, which could even include walt Diusney Parks and resorts. This may well undergo some modification with the recent name change BVHE...we will have to wait and see. It obviously also is not going to include Miramax anymore, while Diwsney still owns the old Miramax catalog and they will not change, new Miramax Films is now a totally separate business entity from the Disney Co, Class Dismissed Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! | Posted: | | | | IMHO, studio names should be entered exactly as credited. Rules right now are too unclear... just my opinion. | | | 99.9% of all cat plans consist only of "Step 1." | | | Last edited: by Grendell |

| Posted: | | | | Despite that fact that I just put BVHE in a submission, Patsa has a very good point, I did read a while back that the Buena Vista name was being phased out, and it is indeed absent from 101 Dalmatians, for example. Where there is in fact an unusually large Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment logo in the corner on the rear. I have't kept up with the state of BVHE, but if it is gone and the subdivisions are now the sole labels on the discs, should they in fact now be regarded as the home distribution studio for these types of releases? |

| Posted: | | | | Just more proof of how evil Disney is. Miramax still isn't a dvd distributor, it's The Weinstein Company, who's probably more evil with that BS Blockbuster deal. I'm not Blockbuster, and I won't ever have another account there either. Lucky I hear most of the "Dimension Extreme" titles that I can't rent suck anyway. Not sure how Black Sheep got on the label in the US, that was a great flick. |

| Posted: | | | | Nadja and patsa. notice that i comment on the name change not only here but recently in another thread. That does NOT however change ANY of the hundreds of titles released by BVHE in the last 10 years. The name change became official with 101 dalmatians, how this will impact other Disney properties remains to be seen. If I had to guess, we will not see WDSHE tied to Touchstone, Dimension or any other Production unit. I expect to see some new Distributors under the Disney Co. flag...but as I said only time will tell.

| Posted: | | | | Actually, Skip, your claim was that "the fine print on the back will always say DISTRIBUTED by Buena Vista Home Entertainment". This no longer being the case means that the whole situation has to be reviewed, so I'd personally like a number of opinions or conclusions, and possibly someone who has firm details on the whole restructuring, my googlings seems to conflict themselves. |

| Posted: | | | | Nadja: You then must have a comprehension problem. I also said. that entity was Buena Vista Home Entertainment. I assume you understand past tense. It is no longer BVHE, but I guess you weren't able to figure that part out. "This may well undergo some modification with the recent name change BVHE...we will have to wait and see. It obviously also is not going to include Miramax anymore, while Diwsney still owns the old Miramax catalog and they will not change, new Miramax Films is now a totally separate business entity from the Disney Co, I don'rt wish to fight with you but you comments BOTH of them are ridiculous. I am not sure what you THINK you are doing, though I have an idea, to me what you are doing I won't say except to say that it isn't terribly complimentary. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! | Posted: | | | | No, it's not "wait and see". The name change is a fact, at least in some localities. Skip, you pretend to know a lot about things which you clearly does not comprehend. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

You tend to be very lippy without knowing or understanding what you are talking about. Do you have any comprehension why the various film divisions of Disney even exist? Apparently NOT. Tochstone for example was created specifically to alow the company to create more "adult" content without "tainting" the Disney image. That being the case it would be perfectly reasonable for Disney to create several Distributors to avoid "tainting" the Disney image by releasing a title under sat TouchstoneStudios Home Entertainment, instead of WDSHE. I haven't seen anything on this possibility, though it may be out there, so we wait and see what the company is up to in that regard. I will admit the move to WDSHE surpriseed me given what my knowledge of the Company, its various divisions and why they exist. But we will see.

Explain please. Disney did it for a purpose of their own. But every Studio has its own subset of Production Companies, like Warner Independent Pictures, Paramount Vantage, etc. Of course, if YOU wnat a to use some sort of Common Studio you are free to do so (though i don't understand why). but that is not what the Online is attempting to do. We do need more Studio fields, even beyond what Ken has promised us, but I'll take what he gives us.
Here is why I don't understand you, martin. The Online is seeking real data which in this case is On Screen. Some sort of Common Studio would be fictional data that does NOT appear On Screen. Now if you are suggesting a Studio ALIAS system, I suggest you table it for the time being...until we get the existing alias system to where it works right and users are properly documenting what they do and NOT making assumptions that TWO names are the same person. In other words let's not start another forest fire before we get the first one under control.

The contribution rules are after "correct names for studios" - whatever that may be. Note that the rules very clearly NOT say: "enter studios as credited on-screen" - and quite rightly so, IMHO. |

The rules say that the 'authoritative source for information submitted should be the DVD itself.' That means we take as much information as we can from the DVD. Studios can be taken from the DVD so that is where they should come from. The caveat in the rules, that "there is further information about correct names for studios, and the opportunity to ask questions if unsure, in the Contributions forum," does not imply we should create an arbitrary common studio name. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
