I don't know if this has been suggested so here it goes.
How about a revamp of the online collection layout. Instead of a straight listing which we now have I think that the phpdvdprofiler would be a good choice, since most of us use it already. What do you all think?

I'm puzzled Skip... How is phpDVDProfiler too limiting, when compared to what Invelos currently offers for our online collection?

Ross:

My data file is rapidly approaching 10GB in its present form. Granted that is mostly graphics, which is very important to me, and with PHP the graphics file would only get bigger because of its capabilities and what i would do with it. So the issue becomes all about size and bandwidth.

I have been trying to figure out an answer to this for a long time, no luck yet, but I am open to suggestions. Especially as I am wrapping Phase One editing, I will have some time to devote to somethinglike PHP, IF I can figure out an answer.

I know you have really big image files in your own local database, but for an online list, I'm sure you could make your images a bit smaller

Not sure your friends or anyone else who would be browsing your online collection would appreciate having to wait 5 minutes just for the images to download!

Image size is should not be a real problem. I always scan my covers with 300 DPI for my own local DVDP database but when I update my phpDVDProfiler site, I make an other copy of the images resizing them at the same time to 500x700. This is vey easily done eg. with IrfanView. When the images are resized, I update my phpDVDProfiler. I also use the original 300 DPI scans for the thumbnails of phpDVDprofiler resizing them first to 180 dots wide.

I created a thread awhile back here that instructs how to create top-notch thumbnails using InfraView and you can use the same process to resize monster sized scans down for web use.

Even though I do use phpdvdprofiler I would love to see Invelos update their online listings to something at least similar... even if still stuck with the small images. But in my case it is probably because a friend here is hosting my site for me... and I will admit I feel a little guilty about that. I mean he is great about it. but if Invelos did something even similar I would be happy to change back to theirs.... if no other reason to give him his space back and not use up his bandwidth.

I agree with Pete.  In fact, that's the reason I'm not using phpdevprofiler.  I don't want to use someone elses bandwidth and space.  And I'm not motivated enough to setup my own.

I'm waiting for Profiler Plus and hoping that it provides a better solution.

Pete, space and bandwidth aren't an issue, so stop feeling guilty.

As for Skip, if you look at site5.com you can get an amazing deal. Current offer is 1.5TB (yes that's TB) of disc space. So that should be enough for Skip and 15TB of bandwidth. Oh and the cost a massive $3.50 a month. Although that's the 10 year price. But its only $8.50 month for a 1 year contract.
