If the credits shows...

Name                  Role
actor name          Role actor plays
actor name          Role actor plays
actor name          Role actor plays
Himself                Craig Kilborn
actor name          Role actor plays
actor name          Role actor plays
actor name          Role actor plays

Then no... I do not agree that himself is meant to be the role name.

in this case I believe it definitely should be...

Name                                Role
actor name                    Role actor plays
actor name                    Role actor plays
actor name                    Role actor plays
Craig Kilborn (Himself)      Craig Kilborn
actor name                    Role actor plays
actor name                    Role actor plays
actor name                    Role actor plays

Taken from this thread - I thought I'd make a poll of it: what should the cast entry for Craig Kilborn be?

I personall favor the simple "Craig Kilborn as Himself", 'cause I don't see the need to overcomplicate things, and I also fear the disastrous results for the "credit lookup" tool: if we enter him credited as "Himself" these entries won't turn up among the "Craig Kilborn" search results. In a few select cases, that practice could even lead to 'Himself' winding up as the most-credited form, and thus, as the common name...

I whole heartedly believe doing so is changing both the name and the role name... which is against the rules... as the rules state to have the names and roles exactly as credited.

You need to know who Himself is first and then if Himself is not playing Himself, if you know what I mean.

Since the credits do not identify which is the name and which is the role (they do not typically identify the columns), you are making the assumption that one is the role and the other the name.

My assumption is based on an analysis of the credit that the name is Craig Kilburn and the role is Himself because I have the ability to apply higher brain functions to what I see on the screen.

If I see one side being all roles and one side being all names that is slightly more then an assumption. To think that all on one side but a single entry is roles or names seems to be a bigger assumption to me.

So based strictly on screen position you are actually going to argue that "Himself" is Craig Kilburn's name!

What I am saying is he is credited as himself... that is why I see it as being...

    Name                                Role
    actor name                    Role actor plays
    actor name                    Role actor plays
    actor name                    Role actor plays
    Craig Kilborn (Himself)      Craig Kilborn
    actor name                    Role actor plays
    actor name                    Role actor plays
    actor name                    Role actor plays

I never once claimed himself is his name. I just take the info I see and use it as I read the rules... no more no less. And as I said before if ken wants to either put an exception for this situation in the rules or make note here to allow switching the name and role then I am all for it... but till then I have to vote and contribute per how I read the rules and and the info I see in the cast list.

Then how do you like my "common name" argument? I'm pretty sure I've already seen such credits for a few non-actors where it was their ONLY acting credit in the entire Invelos database. By your reasoning, wouldn't "Himself" then be the common name? So if this was Craig Kilborn's only credit, how would you enter it?

If you want to put "Himself" in the name field, then you are claiming that "Himself" is his name.

No.... Himself is in the Credited As Field... not in the name field.

I am not saying that it is a perfect solution... I am saying that how I read the rules that is how it must be done at this point. No more or no less.

I do not have to like the way a rule is to follow it. If I truly believe it is covered in the rules (and I do here) What I feel personally is of no matter what so ever... That is what keeping things local and locks are for.

If the only credit for someone is Himself as Name then so be it. I will still strictly follow the rules. I may prefer Ken to look at and update the rules... but till that time I would still vote and contribute only per the rules.

I have not much to add, except that the Credit Lookup will also merge the results from different "Himselfs".

Currently, CLT reports that "Himself" is credited in 46 titles (57 profiles).

Sometimes I really wonder if people would jump of a bridge, if there's a rule to do it...

Based on the anecdotal evidence, I'd say there was a definite percentage of lemmings who would gladly leap.
