| Posted: | | | | I'm auditing a copy of the Cleopatra movie from 1963 and I'm wondering what the CoO should be. I've always thought it should be United States, but the current CoO is United Kingdom (It has not been documented in the contribution notes). I've checked several other profiles and some have US listed as CoO, others have it listed as a UK production
The opening credits list only Twentieth Century-Fox while the end of the movie gives the following text: "Produced by Twentieth Century-Fox Film Production, Ltd.. and the joint venture of MCL Films S.A. and Walwa Films S.A. and released through Twentieth Century-FoxFilm Corporation"
Twentieth Century-Fox is of course a US company. I've not managed to find any info about the two other companies.
So what should the CoO be? US or UK? Thoughts? | | | The colour of her eyes, were the colour of insanity |

| Posted: | | | | If it helps, (and memory serves) the final editing of Cleopatra was completed at the main studio in California. It was such an expensive project that the entire studio was shut down for several months during the editing process. The cost of making Cleopatra was so high that the fate of Fox was uncertain and the box office receipts would decide if Fox would close its doors. There was a time in postproduction that Cleopatra was being edited as two separate films because there was so much material. One, of course, was "Cleopatra" and the other would have been "Anthony and Cleopatra". In 1963 when it was released, at 248 minutes (just over 4 hours), the length was unheard of. It is considered an extremely long film even today. I think they made the right choice by releasing it as a single feature. | | | Dan | | | Last edited: by Dan W |

| Posted: | | | | If this is an argument over where it was filmed then we will have several countries in contention for CoO as it was filmed in more than two. The main production studio was the one in England for those portions filmed in the European block countries. The film was ultimately sent to the main studio in California where it was edited. | | | Dan | | | Last edited: by Dan W |
