I am not a voter, so I should like to put my peeve to those of you who are, in the hope that you may be able to stamp out a practice that I have noted creeping in on first contributions to the database. Firstly, let me say that I really appreciate finding that when I am adding a dvd to my collection that some kind soul has already done the hard work of entering it, so that it is only a matter of a few clicks to download. Secondly, I also appreciate the people who must spend hours poring over detail and send corrected updates. It's what makes the Invelos database such a great tool. Okay - here's my peeve; recently I have noticed that some contributors in their rush to make a contribution have left out considerable chunks of data that is clearly available from the dvd cover, including cover scans, so that the download is virtually worthless and I have to do the majority of the work myself and submit a second contribution. I can forgive cover scans not being included as not everyone has a scanner, and I can forgive newbies as most of us probably made a mistake or two when we started, but we rectified them. But to leave out techinicals, cast, crew and overview, when all the data is patently available from the cover and/or the disc, I submit is not only annoying but is contemptuous of all the members who do make an effort to submit the best contributions possible. Some people are clearly riding on the coat-tails of others. Do voters have any control over the quality of first submissions (incidentally I notice that some submissions are made even before a dvd is released and before it's classified; wrong surely?).

initial contributions don't get voted on, they go right to the screeners.

if these are pre-release contributions, then the information you refer to is not available because the disc isn't out yet. there is nothing wrong with a pre-release contribution as long as you have a upc code (usually available on bigger titles from some online retailers)

for special features and such, you are supposed to go by the disc anyway and not the packaging as that often contains errors.

and as far as contributing in general, no one is required to do full cast/crew profiles. You can submit as little or as much information as you want.

as far as riding on the coat-tails of others, nobody is required to contribute. It seems to me that you expect to be able to download a complete profile for every (or most) movie(s) that you add to your database, so how is that not riding on the coat-tails of others

Agreed. Some proper data is better than full bad data. As for scans, not everyone has a scanner. Many who do have a scanner don't feel comfortable submitting to the eagle-eyed voters. Many others have scanners that just suck.

Most of the bad Pre-Releases profiles are caused by people trying to add too much data. Taking stuff like the audio formats or the overview from some website and it turns out to be all wrong when you get the disc in your hands.

If another user uploads a profile with the data they care about don't look a gift horse in the mouth, now you only have to add the data you care about.
