| Posted: | | | | Have been reading the pinned descriptions of case types, cover types, etc. as well as the contribution rules. What brought on this confusion was a recently purchased movie, 'Donnie Darko: The Director's Cut'. The image on file for this movie is a scan of an outer cardboard case that slips over the inner hard case and to me sounds like a slipcase. Anyway, the image for both front and back are significantly different than the front and back images on the actual dvd hard case (keep case?). I mean SIGNIFICANTLY different. I would assume that the original intent of the rule was with the assumption that the images would be duplicates and since the outer case has no reflective surface would scan better? Can someone clear this up for me? I started out with the intent of contributing the actual hard case scans until I started reading the rules and posts and got confused! Appreciate any help/clarification. | | | Last edited: by TraneMan |

| Posted: | | | | Quote: If a DVD is packaged in a keep case, within a slipcase of some kind, scan the Cover Images from the outer slipcase. If, however, the Slipcase is reflective, and the inner cover art is identical, use the Keep Case art to scan, as it will give a better quality image. The slipcase is the proper item to scan. Not because it is less reflective, but because it is what you see when you look at the DVD on the store shelf, or on your DVD rack. The slipcase shows the art that the manufacturer wanted to present to their customers. Also, if you read the rule again, you see that it states that if they are identical, you may want to scan the inner art to avoid any reflective qualities that the slipcase might have. Just the opposite from your guess. |

| Posted: | | | | yeah, if the DVD comes with a slipcase then we always submit scans of that, no matter how different it is to the sleeve inside. The only time we scan the inner cover is when the slipcase is too reflective to scan well. |

Or the rare occasion that the only person who has the disc and a scanner didn't get a slipcover with theirs (buying later or used). It already happened to me at least once, although I forget which title it was. My scans are in but I didn't get a slip. Of course this was one where the slip is identical, Donnie probably wouldn't stand a chance of getting approved on inner covers even if existing were watermarked and tiny. | | | Last edited: by bigdaddyhorse |
