Outrage (¡Dispara!) production year is listed differently in the invelos database. I’ve done a bit of research and keep getting conflicting years. Does anyone know what the correct year is?

Production Year in DVDP is actually the year of the theatrical release, and not the year it was produced (the name Production Year for this field is wrong and needs fixing). Copyright year does not necessarily coïncide with the theatrical release year either.

This film was released in its native Spain on October 1st 1993 (according to both Wikipedia and
IMDb).
The BFI lists 1993 as the year of release as well.

Hence it has to be 1993.

A site like rottentomatoes will have used the year it was released in the US, which in this case is irrelevant as it's not a US film.

Hope this helps, Kathy!

Correct! A few users deliberately ignore this and keep using copyright year (because it's easier in that you don't have to rely on external sources) - note that these are usually the people who often accuse others of breaking the rules.    Therefore I'm always glad to see this pointed out.

I believed this was common practice now:
Poll
Change Production Year to Copyright Year

As I've been told on previous occasions so many times (not that I ever claimed otherwise, mind you): a poll doesn't equal a rule. As of yet, the rule is to use the year of the theatrical release.

From the Contribution Rules:

Production Year
Enter the year of the original theatrical release. For films that have been updated (e.g., a Special Edition or Directors Cut) use the year of the original release, not the year that the re-release was “made” or released.

VERY clear, I would say. All that needs changing is the label of the field, because "Production Year" will confuse people.

Ken could change the rules offcourse. As the copywright year is always on the credits and is easy verifyable.

Of course he could, but that's irrelevant for the answer to Kathy's question and belongs in the Contribution Rules Committee rather than this forum anyway.

Thanks for all the help! Sometimes the more I read the rules and forums...the more confused I get!

One thing I know for sure...any film whose credits are not written in English goes to the end of my contribution list! I'm afraid I've spent far too much time just translating everything!

Kathy,

Released in USA on video April 9, 1996
Shown at MIFED in Milan October 24-29, 1993.
Shown at Venice Film Festival (in competition) August 31 - September 11, 1993.

1993 appears to be the year it was released. See: TCMDB powered by AFI here.

I have looked at BFI, IMDB et al and cannot find anything to support there claim of an earlier release on 1 October 1993. The fact that it was shown a a film festival doesn't mean it was released then BTW.

In this case, the only relevant date is the date it was released in Spain, NOT the US release date. To find additional evidence for the Spanish release date, you'd have to consult Spanish sites. Unfortunately, I don't speak Spanish.
Not sure what your TCMDB link is supposed to prove. Not sure why AFI would be more reliable than BFI either.
