I would like to have the ability to get to the cast and crew databases without having to edit a DVD profile. Often I'm doing maintenance work on cast and crew names (birth years, parsing issues) that is not specific to a profile. I'd just like to get into those databases directly. Right now we can filter the names, but we the have to enter a DVD profile to get to the names for editing.

While you're at it, throw in direct access to the studios list too.

You can access "edit studios" under "Tools"

I really like the option to replace all instances of a studio with another one under that Tools menu - it would be great to be able to do that with cast & crew also -- sometimes you get 4 or 5 different variations of a particular name -- imagine being able to replace all other entries with a common name and parsing.

Something like this would have to go hand in hand with the ability to easily find and list all affected profiles, otherwise how would you know which profiles had been updated?

I'm using the name variant plugin to identify the profiles and often I'll want to add a birth year or correct a parsing problem with a name. It would be easier for me to have direct access to the cast and crew data for that purpose.

If I see a name parsed like John//Q. Smith, I don't need to know what profiles it affects in order to know that I want to fix that. For this reason, it would also be great to have the name parsing colors appear in the cast and crew list so that you could spot parsing errors there too.

It would be cool if you could click a name and autmatically filter to profiles with that name and to also be able to edit the name simultaneously. Right now, the ability to edit a name is accessed within a profile whereas the filter for names is outside the profile. It would be nice to have those together.

I'm sure I've seen that option in the program, something like "colour code names" or similar.
I'm at work so can't check, but try in the Options, possibly Display.

it doesn't display the colours in the name list - only in the list within a dvd profile

Right.

The filter list is pretty handy in that it shows the birth year. If it showed the color-coded parsing and if you were able to edit the names, it would be so much easier to manage the names databases.
