This program is built on profile basis and we have three types to work with locally (L) and uploaded to "My Profiler" space (P), two types which can be contributed to the main db (C).

The profile types are:
* UPC (L/P/C)
* Disc id (L/P/C)
* Manual (L/P)

Each profile type has equal set of fields; e.g. Title, Original Title, CoO, Overview, Credits (Crew/Cast), a.s.o

We can:
- add a divider in Crew/Cast to group credited persons. This is used to group TV Episodes among other things.
- create a Manual profile for each episode and attach them to a disc profile and use that to gain access to certain fields but we can not contribute them.

The request: Episode profile type
I hereby request a forth profile type called "Episode".
This "Episode" or Episode profile type should only contain a handful of visible fields, such as:
1. Number: a digit (01 or 101) preceding Title
2. Title
3. Episode guide (Overview)
4. Credits (possibly using dividers to separate cast list for a single episode)
5. Audio track
6. Video format (NTCS or PAL)
7. Running time
8. Watched
I recommend this Episode profile type to be attachable (made child of) only to a Disc id profile (parent to) and not to a UPC profile type or a Manual profile type.

With this, the profile types would then be:
* UPC (L/P/C)
* Disc id (L/P/C)
* Episode (L/P/C)
* Manual (L/P)

What do you think?

Edited.

I do not agree. Many of us do not use child profiles (disc-level) for TV series. Only Season level. These episode level data should therefore be possible to attach to those also. Also what would you do with sinlge-disc TV releases with UPC?

Also I would like to see, that the episode level data is not part of the collection list (the main reason I do not use disc level data as the collection list would get quite unmanagable with a few a hundred season sets times disc number. What would happen if each episode had a profile?  ). I had proposed a way for entering episode level data during Profiler 2 times. Something similar I have implemented in my CCViewer.

A while ago I decided to go to disc level profiles to better maintain my watched status. Every time I watch a disc which has not yet been added I add it to my collection and mark it as watched.

But even I would not break it down to individual profiles.

I have an average of 6 discs per season and I've got 174 season boxes. That makes 1044 profiles on disc basis (I've already entered 197 of them). It would be a nightmare for me to maintain roughly 4 episode profiles per disc.

I was all for this at one point. And still would be pretty happy to see it. Though I do think another whole profile per episode would be a bit overdoing it for me now that I see how nicely the disc level is working out for me I am pretty happy with that.

But the main thing I am missing... and why I would still really like to see something like this is for tracking what I watch.. At this point I still need to keep a txt file to remind myself what episode I left off one (if I don't complete a full disc)

Of course if there was a way to make it all stay as disc level profiles (or parent level for those that only want that) so that you can say which features (and I mean main features like episodes or movies where more then 1 per side) have been watched or not I would be happy with that.

You might use a "TV Watched" tag with a good few child tags (tick one for each episode you watch).

I do the tracking of my episode watching in the CCViewer, of course
I wish DVD Profiler would implement episode handling in that way.
It was said to come with Profiler 3 and I was a bit disappointed that we only got the dividers for separating cast/crew to track episode data.

* Episode (L/P/C)

How would you identify each Episode in the Invelos database?

It would be great id each episode had to be contributed only ONCE, so to have only ONE record in the database for that episode, regardless of the DVDs it is contained in, and regardless of the different UPC/EAN/ID/Localities.

EDIT: such a record should report both PAL and NTSC run times.

I'm interested in the concept, but see one sticky point-when the same episode is released in different forms. Such as the ST:TOS episodes. There is the original DVD release, of a cleaned-up broadscast version, and there is the "remastered with new CGI effects and additional editing on the flip side of the HD discs" version. Also some of the Dr. Who episodes were released in a broadcast and a "special edition with remastered soundtrack and additional scenes" version.

Not trying to shoot the idea down, just trying to get the brain trust "imaginerring" some enhancements.

Agree, those should be treated as different episodes.

I don't like the idea of separate profiles, however I would like to see an extension of the dividers used in cast and crew, so maybe information like video format, audio format, watched by etc. could be separated just like the credits. All on one profile.

I agree. Disc-level profiles are useless for me, especially when episode level is available.

My request was for the profile type implementation only but if Ken decides to implement support to contribute on episode level he might do it in a way to accommodate your wish too. As long as the entry point to add a episode is linked to a disc. As to a single-disc TV release with UPC: I would add the UPC as a profile. Then its disc as a profile attached to the UPC profile. then each episode a profiles attached to the disc profile.

This episode profile type would definitely be visually represented in the collection list. Manage resp. not manage is a decision made by each user, is it not?

x: What about overview or more accurately "episode guide"?

At this point I still need to keep a txt file to remind myself what episode I left off one (if I don't complete a full disc)

x: That would be something for Ken do come up with, but... something like this could probably work: Disc id (incl. Locality) + Disc number + Disc side + Episode number.
DiscId.DiscNumber.DiscSide.EpisodeNumber

It would be great id each episode had to be contributed only ONCE, so to have only ONE record in the database for that episode, regardless of the DVDs it is contained in, and regardless of the different UPC/EAN/ID/Localities.
x: A 2 to 1 relation would probably be needed.

x: Good catch, will add them to the first post.

If we go down this road then for every entry, movie as well as series.
