| Posted: | | | | I was just wondering something.
With the many releases of TV series in "Complete Series" collections, how should the cast/crew info be done.
From the rules for TV Series.
TV Series on DVD come in 2 separate types:
* Complete Series/Season sets * Anthologies of Episodes that do not form a complete series or season.
At the bottom it says:
Note: In rare cases where multiple Complete TV Series are packaged together, the Box-set rules can be applied, treating each series like a single film - applying the above rules for it’s individual profile.
At about Disc Level Profiles:
Individual profiles for each disc may be submitted if desired, but this is not required. Add these profiles to the box set contents of the parent profile. Create each of these individual profiles in line with the standard Contribution Rules with one exception - Cover Images. If a disc, or set of discs, have their own case, use the cover images from that case. When submitting a change to an existing TV series profile that is currently a box set, do not remove the existing contents.
In either case, the cast and crew are to be entered into the parent profile using appropriate episode dividers.
So by my understanding an Entire Series set such as Seinfeld, Full House or Space: 1999 can have the entire cast/crew credits in just the parent profile - regardless of how many seasons are in the set.
By the description of the box set rules noted above it seems to point to a situation such as say Seasons 1 of Full House and Growing Pains was housed together, then the box set rules would apply since they are not the same series.
But even though (by the rules) cast/crew can be entered in a Complete Series parent profile - should there be a limit of how many episodes can be entered into a Complete Series profile. Say the sometime they release "Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Complete Series in a special box. I can't imagine entering cast/crew info for 179 episodes. |

| Posted: | | | | Personally (without being that big a rules expert) I'd say you can only enter these informations if the seasons aren't seperately packed e.g. US RC1 Friends UK RC2 XenaIf there are individually packed seasons, the box set rule applies. Please correct me, if I'm wrong. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

In my opinion that Note is not clear and should be rephrased, or deleted altogether. However, after discussing the issue in this thread, my understanding of that Note is as follows: 1. it seems to refer to multiple "complete season" sets ("series" in British English translates to "season" in American English, and I gather that sentence was written by a Brit), id est sets containing more seasons of a TV show packaged together; 2. it says box set rules "can" be applied, thus it's an option; it does not say "should" or "must" be applied. | | | -- Enry |

| Posted: | | | | Do you not understand why it is worded that way, Tim. There are significant numbers of users who want to to use parent Profiles and there are significant numbers of users, like myself, who think that setting up Parent Profiles is absurd beyond elief and prefer to use child profiles, therefore a compromise was reached, now you don't want the compromise. If it were up to me I would say USE CHILD PROFILES the data is much easier easier to deal with on a disc level than it is on the Parent Profile lising. Can you imagine the parent profile when they one day release Gunsmoke: The Complete Series, 20 Years something in excess of FIVE HUNDRED Episodes all in one profile, just try and find specific data. But I am content with the compromise that was agreed upon by USERS and which Ken signed off on. I am NOT interested in the PARENT system and NEVER will be, I think it is NUTS beyond belief. I, for one, like to have both parent and child profiles of TV shows, with complete data, for the reasons I explained here. | | | -- Enry |

| Posted: | | | | I'm quite happy with the compromise as well. It means that both those that want only the parent profile get all the information they need as well as those who added all the child profiles. If the downside is that we end up with a couple of users who end up adding 200 or so episodes to a multi-season parent profile, let them. They're the one's who have done all the work - we don't have to download it or even vote on it if we don't want to. |
