| Posted: | | | | I am a relative "Newbie" to DVD Profiler. I was wondering why there is a the negatism about IMDB. Is it because it is inaccurate? Or is ther some other reason?
Thanks!!! |

| Posted: | | | | Well, I find that there are two main reasons IMDb is discouraged from use. The first being legal reasons...taking information from IMDb can leave Invelos open to lawsuits because, basically, it's stealing their information without paying for it
The second reason is, yes, their database is very inaccurate. Take just one or two of your movies and watch the credits. Almost always there are differences between the two...the credits of the movie (which we use) are listed differently, names are credited differently, roles are wrong. Part of this may be set up by IMDb to help catch people who are stealing their information and part of it is just the information was entered wrong.
Hope this helps! | | | Lori |

| Posted: | | | | Lori pretty much nailed it. But besides cast & crew, I find IMDB to be an excellent resource. The program even has a link to IMDB (From the Online menu, go to the bottom and click on Other Websites).
So there's a lot of negativity about pulling in data from IMDB, but not so much about the site in general. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

| Posted: | | | | Current example of IMDb's inaccuracies concerning cast: The miniseries Comanche Moon which aired this past week. IMDb's cast list is atrocious. It has only 3 characters listed "In credits order" with the "rest of the cast "listed alphabetically." The problem with that is that the 3 characters "in credits order" aren't the main characters and about half of those "listed alphabetically" weren't credited at all in the any of the three parts.
I realize that this may be too soon after the first airing of Comanche Moon to expect accurate credits, but in my experience this isn't unusual even with titles that are several years old. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? | Posted: | | | | We must not use IMDb data because of said legal reasons. I understand that and stand behind it.
Other than that I use IMDb on a daily basis to check out movies and actors because DVDProfiler is limited to the DVDs I have in my database - IMDb is not. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

I would be thrilled if we could check movies and actors in the online Invelos database like we can in our local database of owned/ordered/wishlist profiles. | | | -- Enry |

Jep, would be nice to check this on the Invelos website. The database itself is available, I think it's "only" a subject to website programming. Maybe an issue for the Profiler Plus? | | | Thorsten |

| Posted: | | | | I know I'm starting to veer off-topic, but as DJ and Enry say, it would be a great to be able to search the whole database locally, especially when trying to deal with common names. |
