What do you think about having colorized fields in the online list? So you can see with the first look where he Blu-rays, HD DVDs or normal DVDs are.

You could leave the DVDs white and the HDs are in a light red, the BDs light blue.

Now that's a good idea. Like it. I have all three in my db and being able to see them straight away would be very useful.
At the moment I'm having to use tags which is not ideal. This would be excellent.

Why not simply allow users to assign a color (of their own choice) to the various column attributes?

I'd much prefer to be able to show loaned DVD's as grayed out for example ...

While i don't comprehend loaning of my assets (DVDs), see the article in my signature.  I can understand the value of coloring for a variety of things, even to isolating TV from film. That said I like the Red and Blue choice relative to HD/BD as it approximates the colors of the cases.

Good thinking. Add an option to change default colors to user's choice.

I've read the article (it's a good one - thanks), and I've ordered my own copy of The Prince of Darkness, largely as a result of your recommendation.

A standard set of colors would make a lot of sense for the online list, however it would be very nice to be able to select the colors used to display lines in our DVDprofiler collection lists.

Perhaps we should reserve a color now for CDs.

An alternative option would be to have an optional column in the list before the title which would show a red or a blue dot. Those that don't want it could just turn it off (or those that do want it could turn it on!)
That might be easier than colouring in the whole line.

Yes but, the capability to color a line already exists.  It's only currently used to Highlight New Releases.  In theory this could be extended easily (said the guy not doing the work).
