| Posted: | | | | If an actor is in only 2 movies, and is credited differently in both, which name is to be used as the common name?
Example 1: Actor credited as: - Salvatore Aprile in "The Killing of a Chinese Bookie" - Sonny Aprile in "Woman Under the Influence"
Example 2: Actor credited as: - Eddie Ike Shaw in "The Killing of a Chinese Bookie" - Eddie Shaw in "Woman Under the Influence"
(I have personally verified both these credits. Both are movies directed by John Cassavetes, BTW.)
Assuming both Apriles are the same guy and both Shaws are the same guy, which name should be used when there's a tie? | | | Last edited: by Behemot |

Just did the first one for giggles and Salvatore was in 2 titles, while Sonny was in 9. According to the rules you have to use Sonny for the first one. See what I mean by flawed results? | | | Last edited: by mdnitoil |

| Posted: | | | | For the second example I would use the longer name, simply because Eddie Shaw seems quite a common name therefore there's a good chance that other actors with the same name may crop up. Using his middle name in the common name means we don't have to worry about a BY for him. |

If you look at the actual titles (some of which are in languages other than English), and account for the fact that I've verified how he is actually credited in the 2 movies, you'll see that Sonny is credited in 1 movie/8 profiles, and Salvatore 1 movie/8 profiles - i.e., a tie. |

I've seen it any number of times here on region 1 profiles. That's why a number of us are doing common names ourselves, online be damned. I'm perfectly willing to accept your results, but I'm not the one you have to convince. Perhaps you'll be lucky and folks in your region will actually understand that the same title in a different language gets counted more than once. | | | Last edited: by mdnitoil |
