| Posted: | | | | One day, especially with crew data we are going to get bit right square in the rear... Ken has told us NOT to rely exclusively on the Lookup tool, please STOP assuming that Name X=Name Y, just because they are similar names. My father and i have similar names but we are NOT the same person. I cannot and I will not support BLIND usage of The credit lookup tool based on an assumption. IF you cannot or will not provide documentation that similar names belong to the SAME person, I will vote NO and it is my sincere hope that ken and gerri wold decline EVERY such example of this failure to document.
Come on, gang, let's do it right...or not at all. Thank you!

| Posted: | | | | Tim. And there were several comments there that lead us exactly down the path I refer to. Take the easy way out, accuracy is not important. IF I THINK Name X=Name Y then that is good enough, until it bites us in the rear, and then it calls into question our entire database. Its not good enough for me, and i don;'t want it to be good enough for ANYONE else either. I have seen many user claim to be interested in accuracy, but their Contributions belie those coments in nearly every case except for a very small handful of users. To those users I say a hearty thank you. To the rest of you stop claiming to be interested in accuracy until you are willing to go above and beyond to try and assure that we have accurate data. Again Thank you for your support. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

Roxann Dawson = Roxann Biggs-Dawson If I get this thread right, you should have given this sources with your contribution, not within a forum. Even though your contribution might have been perfectly right. They're in there now. Anyone who knows anything about Roxann Dawson didn't need a link, and Merri (a woman by the way) had her credit changed from one episode to the next within hte same season. Not very likey that her son or daughter took over her job from one week to the next! Voting no is a way for Skip to "fight back".....that's all! He hates the "common name" implementation, and will oppose it's use wherever he can. | | | Hal | | | Last edited: by hal9g |

| Posted: | | | | Actuall, I have to agree with skip.
For a single movie, you can come up with John Smith 12 times and John B. Smith 20 times for the same role.
The online database is full of errors to begin with. to completly rely on such would impose a continuation of those errors.
For the Look-up tool to be used with confidence, then all credits for the profiles must be accurate. |

He hates the "common name" implementation, and will oppose it's use wherever he can. We have at last information 500,000+ users, Hal. You believe that they ALL have the same depth of knowledge that you and I possess? I refuse to make that assumption, my friend. I am not at all happy that Ken has constrained our Contribution Notes so that my notes can no longer be as detailed and informative as I believe they once were, I will cut no corners. I think, for the most part, it's fairly easy to supply reasonable documentation with submissions. | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

I think, for the most part, it's fairly easy to supply reasonable documentation with submissions. When doing full audits of TV Set Seasons, the contribution notes could be the size of a small novellette if you had to cover every single change with enough documentation to satisfy certain users here! | | | Hal | | | Last edited: by hal9g |

Quoting skipnet50: Quote: FYI I am working on The Complete I Love Lucy, guess what there are no individual Season Packages, just discs in a custom case. I am sooooooo tempted to set up the Parent with ALL cast and Crew for nearly TWO HUNDRED individual show to demonstrate the utter futility of it.
Skip According to the Rules, the parent should be set up with all of the cast and crew. I see nothing in the Rules that says "except if the number of discs exceeds X (pick your number)".
