Not that long ago i bought Evan Almighty on HD-DVD and wanted to add it to my dvd profiler but when i typed in the EAN i got a Evan Almighty profile... a DVD profile that is...

So i started to edit the profile and fill in the missing stuff and submitted it but that a user gave it a "Reject" because apperently "The UPC is not the same" so my problem is now, what do i do and how to submit it.

The EAN is still the same so can't submit it under the exesting profile apperently.

EAN in question: 5050582528350

Also checked the ean on the dvd released here and it's not the same, it's: 5050582505108

Check the UPC of the profile you have and make sure it matches that of your disc. If it doesn't you can go to DVD->Change UPC and put in the UPC that matches your release. Then try and refresh the profile for that title as if someone entered it in it will then download that data. If not you can then make the changes and submit it as a new profile. Also check the locality of the DVD.

If it does have the same UPC and it is for a DVD and you have an HD-DVD then something is off because I don't think the studio would use the same UPC for DVD and HD-DVD so its possible the profile is listed incorrectly as a DVD. If there is a DVD and HD-DVD with the same UPC then I believe Ken will have to make some sort of exception to allow both profiles to co-exist.

At the same time if the EAN is the same for both DVD and HD DVD...how about submitting the HD DVD by putting HD DVD in the Edition field?

Under DVD theres only "Select by PC" and when i press that theres just an empty field.

I'm not really sure what UPC is when it all comes down to it but if it's anything like the ean code then i proberly can't check it as i don't have a hddvd drive in my pc.

That would overwrite the DVD profile. The only elements which keep the profiles separate is the UPC / Locality combination.

Ok, I will explain this again. Multiple UPC #s are VERY common. They are used by the distributor to iidentify Security Systems which retailers use or none. Best Buy product doesn't want to be in Circuit city as they use different security systems. All you want to do is, using whatever method you prefer is to make sure that the data relating to YOUR purchase is coirrect and Contribute as necessary. Don't get all heated up over different UPC#s.

Hi Stormshadow,
I just checked the profile in question and it looks like a prerelease contribution to me, because front and backcover are the same, there is a releasedate recognizable on the scan and last, but not least, there is no UPC / EAN on the cover.
What I would do in your case is contact the NO-Voter via PM and make sure that he really has a DVD with this UPC. If yes, you can only contribute via Disc-ID, I hope one of your friends has a HD-DVD-ROM in his PC. If the NO-Voter just linked up to the wrong UPC (something that might happen when you download profiles by name) show him where he went wrong and recontribute your profile.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

I may be mistaken since I don't have any hi-def yet... but I believe I read somewhere on the forum that you can't add the hi-def discs by Disc ID yet... that Ken is working on it for the next release. So if it is using the same UPC as the DVD there isn't anything that can be done that this time I believe.

I agree.

My guess is the current submission is wrong. Since you have the correct one you should add it. Point out in your notes that the current is incorrect and make sure you contribute the cover scan showing that the EAN matches what is submitted.

As Skip points out multiple UPCs (EANs) are common but in my experience they are not common at all for two completely different items such as this. It's not just a re-release of a DVD with some features added or deleted, this is two separate formats. The only thing the same about them would be the title. It would be like finding a UPC on a VHS tape that matched the UPC on a DVD. Doubt it would happen.

Whatever you do you if you continue to get a no vote you may want to PM Gerri about it and see if she can help you get it sorted out.

Good luck

I'd say check out the current scan if it's clearly a DVD and shows the UPC on the back and it matches yours, well, uh oh....

based on everything you posted here including the link to the scan I say submit it as you originally did.

Keep in mind one or more NO votes doesn't mean it will be rejected. IT is up to the screeners not the voters. As I said before if you have trouble you could contact Gerri about it.

Just some pre-release cover art with no EAN and two front covers.

UPC is what we yanks ( people from Canada and Mexico also I think) use instead of an EAN. UPCs have 12 digits and EANs have 13 for the most part.
