| Posted: | | | | Hi guys, I have two complete collections that used to be by monthly subscription from magazine companies DeAgostini and GeFabbri. These are the X-Files: The Complete DVD Collection and The Classic War Movie Collection. There are 49 DVD's + Bonus Disc in the X-Files Collection and I think there are 68 DVD's in the War Movie Collection. I've noticed on other people's DVD collections, when browsing, some have similar collections for Star Trek: TNG etc. These are obviously in the DVD profiler database, however, my collections don't seem to be. No problem, I can try to add them, as I've no doubt there has to be another user with the same collections. The only thing is: There is no UPC on the back of the cases, and to my knowledge there is no UPC on the corresponding issue magazine either.I'm a little worried that the Disc ID could have already existing information and that I'll want to change the cover scans to match my collection, any advice? (I'd check now but I'm at work!)Excuse the newbie questions, I don't want to bore anyone but I'm a bit wary about messing up other peoples data on the database as I know how annoying it is when you get some idiot trying to contribute when they don't know what the're doing! | | | "What a pathetic excuse for a DVD collection" | | | Last edited: by jonthomas83 |

If you have AutoRun enabled a little window should pop up telling you whether the DVD was recognized or not. If not the rest should be easy. If yes choose "Preview" to see whether the profile matches, if yes problem solved. If not, download them anyway make the required changes and keep them local, lock the profiles and all should be fine. Hope that helps | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | Ok, I need some help, I really wanted to start a new thread but I know it grates with me as it does with others when there's a thread remotely similar to the subject I will be talking about! So here goes!
Thanks for the replies and PM's that have helped me out on this. I now need help on my first mammoth task!
I've just put all of the DeAgostini War movies into DVD Profiler. No problems, most of the discs got recognised with only a handful which I'll need to contribute from scratch. I'm looking forward to that part!
I have a few questions that if you'd be so kind as to answer, I'd be very grateful.
If you wanna check my list, they appear between numbers 508 - 574.
The problems I have is:
Some of the DVD's that are in the collection have foreign entries in the database, I have temporarily downloaded them to my collection, however, I will want to change the cover images and the description etc to English, perhaps using the official release information stored elsewhere on the database and imputting it onto this Disc ID's information. Is that ok to do and if so, would I then be allowed to submit this English version of the profile without upsetting the foreigners who have been so kind as to submit their versions!
Secondly, I have a number of entries that have box set covers, for example, 'Von Ryan's Express' - 515, and 'The Dirty Dozen' - 511. And there are others. These are showing up as triple film box sets and the cover images show the three films on the front, no problem, but what is best for the database, should I submit the covers I have for these films or should I not bother? Surely, it would be better to have a cover dedicated to that film or am is that not the point and I'm missing something?
Thirdly, for the films that have downloaded correctly, that I inevitably will have to change to incorporate my covers, and also change titles from 'Blah blah: Special Edition' to 'Blah blah', and changing the number of discs to 1 etc. I should not submit these, so what's the best way of locking particular profiles not to download from database, and will I still be able to download other profiles successfully without changing these ones? - Apologies if that sounds silly, but I'm at work and cannot check as the proxy doesn't allow it! | | | "What a pathetic excuse for a DVD collection" |

| Posted: | | | | 1. After downloading the "foreign" version of the DVD, all you need to do is change the elements that refer to the foreign dvd ie (you download a German version of the DVD) change location from Germany to UK; Euro's to GB£; overview from German to English, and since it's a magazine mounted DVD if run time is different change that plus any other differences between the downloaded profile and what is on your DVD.
2 Personally I would just name them as they were originally intended 'Von Ryan's Express' & 'The Dirty Dozen', other members may suggest something else, but what you have in your own "Local Database" is entirely up to you.
3. Once you have made your changes in the "General Info" window you should see 4 icons in the bottom righthand corner the one that look's like a padlock, right click then just tick what you want to lock, that item cannot then be changed unless you "Directly Edit it" or you unlock that part that you will allow an auto download to change. This is also found under DVD>Lock on the top menu. you can even lock the entire DVD in one tick.

In response:
1. Once these changes have been made locally, is it ok to contribute them? The issue I meant to state in the original question was that I wasn't sure if it would be ok to do this, seen as it already has an online entry, albeit foreign (to me of course).
2. Sorry, my mistake, they have the profile of the single film e.g. 'Von Ryan Express' Cast/crew/ details etc. However, the cover shows the box set cover and not the individual film cover, should I contribute a cover image that shows just the one film rather than all three films, or is it likely to get rejected due to the fact that it is from a magazine collection.
3. Fantastic, thank you for that! | | | "What a pathetic excuse for a DVD collection" |

| Posted: | | | | Acc. question 1: If you changed the location then it's a new contribution and you should contribute them.
Acc. question 2: If there is an individual film cover for a DVD (even in a boxset) it should be contributed with the profile, if not use the boxset cover.
Glad if I could help. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | Hi again,
I've put all of the War Movie discs into my collection and it's looking great. However, there are many changes that need to be made, I've just realised that each magazine has its own UPC.
It's a 13 digit number but always starts with a 9. Would it be ok to contribute new profiles, based on the one's I've already downloaded, changing the UPC and cover images, and whatever other infor needs to be changed?
The one issue is that the DVD itself does not have a UPC, but the magazine it comes with does, so in a sense, this is the issue and DVD's unique identifier.
If someone can shed some light on that, I'd be incredibly grateful.
Thanks Jonathan | | | "What a pathetic excuse for a DVD collection" |

| Posted: | | | | I wouldn't use the UPC, as long as you can use the DVD's disc ID to identify the profile, that's the best way. |

| Posted: | | | | I also agree with Nadja and Pete (Addicted) in-so-far as use the Disc ID. The EAN might have already been used by another DVD.
