| Posted: | | | | Dear,
We have discussed about a problem some days ago with a new user and some of his contributions. I have added a post at the end of the discussion but no answer, maybe because the title was in French but the content has been translated after. So I re-write ithere in a new post specific to this suggestion/proposition to have your opinion about it.
Just a little suggestion to avoid a such type of mistakes/misunderstanding: when a new user begins he should only have a limited number of possible contribution per day (or week, ...) as for the system of reputation and if its contributions are corrects and have a good feedback from the screeners of DVD Profiler, its number of contribution increases step by step to finish to have an unlimited numbers.
So it could be a good meaning for the user to familiarize himself with the system of contribution and also to avoid to have a lot of wrong contributions at the same time. We could "educate" it at the beginning if he makes mistakes.
What do you think about it? | | | Regards Cyrille |

| Posted: | | | | IMHO this suggestion is a double-edged sword!
I think we should not imply that every new user isn't able to read, understand and follow the rules. On the other hand there are many experienced users who do not follow the rules for whichever reasons.
Contrariwise I could imagine, that even new users make more efforts than others, to do the right thing (of course exception proves the rule).
Your example is the new reputation system. AFAIK In the very beginning, you are not limited concerning postings and votes. Only negative feedback can cause limitations. This procedure should be assigned to new users/contributors.
And last but not least: we should be aware, that even new users have paid the full fee for the unlimited (!) registration and therefore they should have initially the same rights as all the others (kind of "presumption of innocence")!

| Posted: | | | | Quite a good idea, but as usual a few restrictions to the idea
1. if limited then only for "corrections" of existing profiles, no limitation for new profiles. Because it makes no sense to prevent the collectors of rarities from contributing if obviously no other user is involved.
2. In the "good old" 2.x times before your first contribution you had to go through a little test to check whether you understood the major points of the rules and the contribution was only accepted when you passed the test. I think reinstalling this test is the better way. We'll have to localize the rules then, so that everyone has the chance to understand them, but this shouldn't be that hard to achieve. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Yes I have thought to this too. I think it could be good too. I have thought to this kind of thing it's because on some forums the first x message are moderate and after that he could post without any restriction. So why not for the contribution? The other solution could be an extension of the rating system for the contribution itself (not the comments) and so it could block all users and not only the new users. | | | Regards Cyrille |

I'll second that. Where can I read the questions in that test? Quote: I think reinstalling this test is the better way. If we had such a sum up, I would happily help translate it to my own language. | | | -- Enry | | | Last edited: by White Pongo, Jr. |

I don't know if they still work, but they should be on the legacy site of Intervocative. Or ask Ken, but remember: the rules have been changed since then. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?
