| Posted: | | | | Was wondering about the term we use called Child Profile.. I.E. If a Box set of say 'Indiana Jones or the Star Wars' (77-83) is released we can and do use - child profiles for each movie.. but what about Zemeckis's Back to the Future The Complete Trilogy ? It seem to me that this box set is as one complete trilogy and if you try and search each title it doesn't seem to be there, and if it is, it is under the same art work as the box set and the discs are labeled disc ID and not UPC .. This seems to be part of the problem of the occasionally art work trying to be submitted that belongs to either VHS or Laser disc family of cover art.
Now if it is determined that the complete trilogy is as one and not three, the running time should be combined and the cast and crew should also be combined. The dividers could then be put into place such as the Twin Peaks series has so graciously been contributed as such..

| Posted: | | | | As everyone has already said, the rules call this a box set because it contains 3 seperate films. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | The other reason for having these be separate profiles is that besides Cast, Crew & Overview, it's hard to mix multiple movies into a single profile. As you mentioned, you'd have to combine the runtime. And what do you do if the movies have different ratings? Or different aspect ratios? Or audio tracks. And so on.
Plus, a combined runtime is useless to me. If I want to watch Back to the Future II, I want to know how long that movie is. If it's long, I might want to start early. And if you combine them, there's no way to track your last watched date. I might want to check the rating on one movie in a set to see if it's rated appropiately for my children.
I see no reason to take a step backwards in this department. We fought hard enough to be able to submit all three Back to the Future movies separately (it used to be the way you suggest and was widely hated). It would be a shame to revert back to that system. And you'd have many unhappy users. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

That would be like the Godfather saga, correct? Where they edited the two parts of Godfather II to fit before & after the events of The Godfather...? .. and I agree mostly,.. but in the Godfather example you give ,, can you imagine for a moment, that all three Godfather Movies were released in one giant black case and all the discs within that case were just in it's own hubbed snap-in holder with silkscreened art on each of the three discs... But that is not the case as each of the Godfathers has its own individual release jacket.. just as Raiders and Star Wars does. What I was trying to refer to is the fact that the BTTF trilogy has no such jackets or artwork.. The example I gave of the Twin Peaks saga was that it has its own set of credits and crew/cast but it was done as dividers for all the episodes into one big series. I wonder why Zemeckis and Spielsberg didn't want to sell the collection as seperate movies???? especially Back to the Future (1985) was at that time, a single movie., There was no 'to be continued' after the Delorean floated up and off to 2015 ..... in the original Back to The Future . Correct?? | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

| Posted: | | | | Twin Peaks was a TV series over two seasons but unless my memory has failed me, there were BTTF was 3 separate theatrical films:
Back to the Future Back to the Future Part II Back to the Future Part III
While I realize that this is DVD Profiler and not Theatrical Movie Profiler, I think it is both specious and silly to argue that it was really only a single film. Each was self-contained and can be viewed as a stand alone film (though II has a number of loose ends which aren't resolved until III).
If you want to combine them into one long single profile, Terry, go right ahead. But keep it local. It's rather clear to me that the box set rules apply here. Just because the producers chose to only release it as one unit doesn't detract from the fact that there were originally three separate films. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? Correct?? It's 22 years ago but i seem to remember the "To be continued" on screen in the theater. I won't bet a lot of money on it but i'd bet a little. And it's three movies. | | | Bad movie? | Posted: | | | | I am almost positive that the theatrical version from the summer of 1985 did NOT have the words: 'To Be Continued" on the Movie screen . I'm sure I heard somewhere that Universal (Sid Sheinberg) was not going to advance any monies until it was determined that the film was a success. In the fall of 1985 it got the green light, and Then in the summer of 1986 when the home video tapes/ discs of BTTF were released, it was confirmed right then and there that there would be a sequel in the works..

| Posted: | | | | Whether or not "to be continued" is there does not take away from the fact that it is a complete film and NOT a mere third of a whole film. It is NOT episodic like a TV series -- so it should be profiled as three films in the main database (box set rules) IMnsHO. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? We ain't got no badges.
