| | Posted: | | | | I tried to install DVDProfiler 3.1.1, but I only get access violations when I try to start the program. I took a backup of my old database, uninstalled the old version (2.4.0 build 868) and deleted the old directory before I installed 3.1.1. Every time I try to start it, I get access violation : "The instruction at '0x00b19c7d' referenced memory at '0xffffffff'. The memory could not be 'read'." I tried to uninstall the program and remove the registry settings before I re-installed, but same problem...
OS is Win2k SP4 and I'm using a dual monitor setup with an ATI graphics card.
Anyone that have any suggestions?

| | Posted: | | | | Unfortunately access violations are pretty generic, and almost always occur in a component library we use rather than in code we've directly written. In the case of an error like this at startup, the following have caused this in the past:
- Using software which maximizes windows across multiple monitors (usually works ok)
- Windows interface mod tools such as WindowBlinds (generally works ok)
- Overzealous firewall or antivirus (you can try temporarily disabling to diagnose)
- Virus/trojan, or running a hacked version of the program
Generally the first step is to boot into safe mode and see if the program runs ok. To do this, press F8 when you reboot, then select Safe Mode.
If that works, proceed next to a diagnostic startup and track down the interfering program. To do this, run 'MSCONFIG' and select diagnostic startup, then let it reboot. | | | | Invelos Software, Inc. Representative | | | | Last edited: by Ken Cole |

Thanks for the suggestions.
Seems like it's the ZoneAlarm firewall that is the culprit. I shutdown ZoneAlarm and the program started without any problems. I upgraded ZoneAlarm to the latest version, but the problem is still there. And I'm not willing to run without the firewall...

Stig I don't think you need to abandon/disable Zone Alarm while running DVDP. I think you just need to authorize DVDP full access in your ZA firewall settings. | | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

When I tried to start DVDProfiler again, it started and I got several warnings about DVDProfiler and components trying to access Internet, so I answered Ok. | | Posted: | | | | It's a real pita running Windows as anything but administrator so yes, I'm running as administrator.  I don't know how much has changed 'under the hood', but I didn't have any problems with 2.4.0. Stig |
