| Posted: | | | | I've got a number of items that contain more than one movie on a given side of a DVD. The contribution rules do not cover this situation. Two examples:
15 Minutes/Frequency/Thirteen Days (URL: http://www.amazon.ca/15-Minutes-Frequency-Thirteen-Days/dp/B000HT38DU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1196810756&sr=8-1) This contains a single disc with '15 minutes' and 'Frequency' on side A and 'Thirteen Days' on side B.
Any of the '50 Movie' boxed sets that contain 4 movies on a disc (2 on each side)
The closest that the contribution rules come to covering this is "Sets containing 2 films, one on each side of Dual-Sided DVD" This does not cover these situations however. I've seen contributions that include the credits for DVDs with two movies on a side seperated by a seperator. This suits me fine, but is this the rule? In the case of the first example should there then be: 1. one entry with credits for all three movies' credits seperated by seperators 2. one boxed set entry and two other entries, one for each side, one with two sets of credits the other with only one - or - 3. one boxed set entry and three other entries for each movie (even though this would create two disc ids with different movie deatils on them).
What're your thoughts? |

| Posted: | | | | I think option 2 is how they are generally done. As for myself, I go with option 3. But as mentioned, that requires using manual profiles which can't be submitted.

| Posted: | | | | The accepted practice for the online is option 2. There are innumerable examples of this being done. Multiple movies on the same side are segregated by dividers, otherwise break things down by disk side as much as possible. |

Anyone,
I want to make my contributions 'by the book' as it were. The concerns I have are with the '50 movie pack' boxed sets. If I go by waht people seem to be the standard so far I will have to make 25 entries for one boxed set (One for the set and 24 entries for each side of the 12 DVDs included). http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/104-9365346-5412706?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=50+movie+pack
These are cheap boxed sets that include (usually) poor transfers of movies. I'd kinda like to make just thirteen entries (one for the set one for each disc - with four dividers for each movie).
As a side note: I can't help but think that a dramatic improvement for DVD profiler would be to have movies as seperate entities from DVDs. Movies would be attached to DVDs as content with tier aspect ratio sound mix etc. This would allow for people to add movies that already have credits done up to DVDs with less work and changes made to the movie profile would apply to all DVDs with that movie. This would substantially reduce entry time and consistency. Buth really, that's another thread... |

| Posted: | | | | But that does not absolve a separate profile for the other side. Unfortunately, as the rules currently are being interpreted, you'd be looking at 25 profiles. For what it's worth, I tend to do the child profiles first and submit them as I go. Then, by the time I'm ready for the parent profile, everything else is done. No rule that says all child profiles must be submitted at the same time.
There are many who would agree with your sidenote regarding single movie profiles that can be attached to disk profiles. Unfortunately, the software wasn't designed that way and I would presume it's no trivial effort to get there from here. |

Option 2 would work since side 1 and side 2 have different disc IDs. There are a lot of child profiles done this way.
