Hi,
Can we have a feature that whenever you add a boxset according to its UPC, it also downloads and adds the entire DVDs in that boxset.

Thanks,
Guy

We've talked about this one lots of times in the past.  If that feature ever gets implemented, it should be optional.  The problem is that sometimes the same boxset can have contents with different UPC/disc IDs.  I prefer to add the box set and the children profiles seperately to make sure I'm getting all the correct profiles.

I can see that there's an argument against already, but I'm going to second this.  It's especially annoying adding a boxset where it's the discs stored in a single case, then having to fish through disc IDs to find the movies.  The best thing about DVDP is being able to simply enter a UPC and get a LOT of information with no further effort.

Perhaps a compromise would be to implement it when disc IDs are stored for the boxset.  It would still mean adding separate DVDs (stored in their own cases).

Basically like Mark says it was talked about in the past just as long as the user had the option to not accept the automatic download of the child profiles if they didn't want them.  Maybe an alert box that comes up when you add the box set profile asking you if you want the children associated with the parent.  Since we now allow TV sets to be profiled at the disc level, some users want the individual discs and some don't.

Please don't take my comments as an argument against this.  In fact I think it's a great idea.  I'd just like to see it be an optional feature.

Speaking for myself, I prefer to load thing manually to make sure the profile I'm getting matches what I'm holding in my hands.  Plus how would you handle the personalization?  I think most people number the child profiles, but not the parent.  I actually do mine the other way.  I also don't add a price paid to the child profiles, but I do like to note where it was purchased (which makes no sense since it was purchased at the same place the parent was purchased).  Then you have tags.  I apply a "boxset" tag to my boxset so I can easily filter them our for various reasons.  But I wouldn't want the child profiles to automatically inherit that tag of course.  Yet I might want to apply tags to the child profiles that I don't want applied to the parent.

So I fully support this request as long as it's optional.

I would also really like to see an option added where you can download child profiles with the parent profile, for profile updates as well as new additions.

At the minute it's very infuriating to update the profiles only to find all the cast & crew info has suddenly vanished from your profile, because someone else has moved them to a child profile but you don't have the child profile in your db.

I guess the ideal way to do it would be to have a new window come up when you add a box set profile, with a list of the child profiles. These could then be selected and added individually (or ignored) as with any other title in the "add by title" window. Of course I don't know about programming, this might be overly complicated to put into practise.

That wouldn't happen if you previewed the new profiles before accepting them.  Ken has provided all the tools neccessary to make sure data doesn't just appear or disappear.  If you don't use the tools provided, then you should be directing that anger at yourself and taking the time to do things right.

Who's angry? I said it was infuriating, not enraging. And previewing the profile makes no difference. You either have to refuse the update (which may have other fixes in it) or still manually add all the child profiles. My point still stands!

I think it would be cool to add the parent of the box set and have somethign pop up saying "This profile has the following child profiles.  Would you like to download them?"  Then have a check box that you can check what you want, ignore all or some.  But it would have to give enough info to determine that it is the right child profile for your collection

You do know that you can accept just sections of the update? I.e. I might accept the Overview and crew changes but reject the Cast changes..

Unless of course there's a mistake in the cast...

Don't worry - just playing devil's advocate - and I don't want this topic to stray off into other areas.

I'm not following.    If there's a mistake in the cast, then that's a perfect example of why you might accept all the changes for the profile except for the cast.  As Paul mentioned, it's not all or nothing.  You can accept the parts you want and refuse the parts you don't want.

okay...

i agree with Mark, it should be optional and yet would be way cool.

i think nadja's or schultzy's ideas would work great.
