| Posted: | | | | What do you do if the edition name is too long to fit in the edition field?
The DVD:
Das Boot: The Director's Cut: Deluxe Widescreen Presentation
The edition would be: The Director's Cut: Deluxe Widescreen Presentation, unfortunately it only goes to the 'r' in presentation.
For my local DB I've moved 'The Director's Cut' over into the Title field to make it all fit.
But what would be the submittable profile solution to this, if there is one? The Edition rules don't cover this.
Thanks for your time. |

| Posted: | | | | An argument could be made for making the title "Das Boot: The Director's Cut" as I believe "Troy: The Director's Cut" has already been approved in the database. What does the credit block on the back cover say? Does it say "Das Boot" or "Das Boot: The Director's Cut"? It all depends on whether you can make a good enough case for classing the whole lot as the DVD title or not. |

| Posted: | | | | As a temporary solution : just enter "Deluxe Director's Cut".
That's tell all the needed info on this DVD; this is the DC and this is the Deluxe presentation. Not perfect but at least all the info are here (except the Widescreen who appear in the video format).
Someone have a better idea? |

| Posted: | | | | I would enter "The Director's Cut: Deluxe Presentation", as "Widescreen" is often redundant information.
Other than that, "The Director's Cut" is certainly not part of the title. | | | Martin Zuidervliet

| Posted: | | | | Martin: Don't make a definitive statement like that , I have seen "Director's Cuts that are indeed a part of the title, and are even On Screen, rare but one never knows. That said I agree with your answer. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | So, I took Northbloke's suggestion and checked the credit block on the back of the DVD Case. The actual title there is..."Das Boot-The Director's Cut"
So much for definitive statements. |

So much for definitive statements. The credit block on the back should only be used to check if possessives are part of the actual DVD title. | | | Martin Zuidervliet

| Posted: | | | | Ok, We've drifted away from the original topic of this thread, which was what to do if the edition title is too long. Das Boot was the example I had at hand. I'm not trying to mount a campaign to have the disc title changed. As the screen title is Das Boot. So, the question remains: If the Edition information is too long to fit in the edition field is there a STANDARDIZED way of abbreviating, leaving out certain words (Widescreen, Deluxe, etc.) or is a case by case thing where the individual chooses what they think looks best and then tries to convince the rest of the DVDP community that their way is best? Because I'm sure everyone will agree. My next stop is the Feature Request Forum to suggest that the edition field be made longer. Thanks to all who offered their opinions. chivas_neat |

| Posted: | | | | I have to laugh at how that DVD is labeled 'DELUXE Widescreen Presentation." Like it's only 1.85:1.., Now 2.40:1 and higher - That's Widescreen!!,, but 1.85? | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

| Posted: | | | | I didn't realise it was a more general answer you wanted, I thought you were only talking about Das Boot. In general, I think this sort of thing is only going to happen rarely, rarely enough for them to be looked at on a case-by-case basis. |

I was specifically interested in what to do with Das Boot, but was hoping that there was a general format that was adhered to in a situation like this. But, you're right with almost a thousand DVD's in my collection this is the first time I encountered this problem, so it will be a case by case quest to get everyone to agree to the edition. I found another one by the way while I was researching: Troy: Director's Cut: Ultimate Collector's Edition It is currently in the database as Troy: Director's Cut: Ultimate Collector's Ed. And it's another Wolfgang Peterson film as well, that boy's just a troublemaker |

| Posted: | | | | LOL, you'd think with names as short as TROY or DAS BOOT, we'd have no problems fitting them in the fields! |
