Following a recent theme (as a result of the UK locality being flooded with chaff), I've got another suggestion for improving submissions. Much as a sophisticated solution which involve automation would be ideal, the implementation and practicalities of it can be somewhat more involved than first appears. Therefore, I've got a very simple suggestion:

When contributing, add "Locality: [Locality]" (and maybe UPC as well) beneath title to highlight the significance of what the user is doing (preferably in red, just to satisfy my bug of the week feeling about it).

This is a sig... ... ... yay...

Don't understand? Maybe DVDProfilerWiki.org does!

It would be a lot easier if the locality remained blank, even after selecting a region, so the locality has to be chosen manually, rather than left on the default setting.

I would prefer that as well. And then maybe a warning when submitting, if no locality has been chosen.

Yes, that is a better idea (if a little more complicated to implement).

Why complicated?
Simply leave the locality field blank by default and only enable the OK button, when a locality has been chosen.

But I hear already hear the outcry of some of our American friends wishing that "United States" should be preselected when setting RC1

Because setting/changing locality is a somewhat obscure piece of functionality (hidden in the menus), you couldn't really leave it working as it does or you'd generate dozens of queries. Realistically, you'd have to change how it's selected, which means workflow changes, GUI changes, etc. Whilst not necessarily that much work, it's indisputably more work than simply reporting a couple of variables that already exist, hence why I said it was a little more complicated.

This would probably result in even less contributions in the smaller localitys. I agree with the OP's first suggestion.

I am thinking more about forcing the user to select the locality, when the profile is first created. Currently it has a default locality entry in the combobox according to the region you have selected. If you were forced to select the locality yourself, chances that incorrect localities are used would be smaller.

Seriously - how difficult is it to put the correct locality in?

I'd personally like it if DVDP sent an electric shock through the keyboard if someone contributes a wrong locality
