Hi all.

This question has prob been asked quite alot so here it goes again..

If a movie is not found using the DVD profiler database, is there a way enable an option that will also search the IMDB site and import all the info?

I have a movie called "Don't Be Scared" which is not listed in the DVD profiler database, but can be found on the IMDB website.

Also..I really don;t want to enter all the info manually if I can avoid it.

Suggestions/comments??

There are no such feature in DVD Profiler and since the title is't available in any regions in DVDPro, the only thing left is to enter it manually

Sorry

No, you can't import the info from IMDB.  There are two main reasons info from there is not used.  The first is legal.  That'd be basically stealing their information and the owners of this wonderful program could get into a lot of trouble.  We don't want that.  The second, is a lot of the information is incorrect.  We try to use only info from the DVD itself to put into the program.  There are a few things that have to be found elsewhere, mainly SRP and actor names to credit them correctly, but that's about it.

If a movie is not in the database, that means it's waiting for a user to enter it for others to use.  This is a user built database and movies don't get enter by themselves!  So while it does take time (it doesn't really take as much as you'd think), it's pretty easy to do.  Just, if you do submit the profile to the main database, please read and follow the contribution rules.

I think that contributing the profile is only for paid accounts, but everyone can create their own profiles.

I understand about the legal aspect. But I am sure someone out there has made aplugin to do this somehow.

I tried movie collector from collectorz, its a nice program...only isuue I have with it is when I reinstall my system, it collectors says that I cannot open the database since it belongs to a diff computer.

The Struggle continues.

If I remember rightly there was a plugin for the old Intervocative version that did this, but it doesn't work on this version and as far as I'm aware no one's updated it.
Also from memory, I think last time the plugin was discussed, Ken said even if it was updated, he wouldn't allow it to be posted here because of the legal issues.

Someone create or update it for this version, but Ken locked the thread about it and erase it. No problem with that since this is not a movie profiler but a DVD profiler. I've found something that profile movie sometimes ago, but I couldn't remember the link right now.

Ant Movie Catalog

I didn't really like it but maybe it's what you need.

Edit : because I found the link

The program has been made as DVDprofiler, but it can be used as "movie profiler". It is difficult to separate both function when you buy DVDs to watch films, which is my case. If you buy DVDs just to collect and look at the case, I can understand your point of view...

I certainly don't buy DVD just to look the case, what's the fun in that? I look them all and more than one time... This is the principal fonction of this software if someone need a profiler for his movies there are other software less complicated or strict, but less usefull. That's why I gave him the link to something who  was created for what he wants.

I disagree with that. DVDprofiler is by far the best movie profiler program. I never saw any other program which was better, even for the movie part. That is why I find it restrictive to consider it is just a "DVD" profiler.

PS. I do not consider at all this is a conflict. We are sharing opinions, nothing else...

That's not true.

It's neither cataloguing software nor music nor games that are delivered on DVD.

DVD Profiler is a program designed specifically for cataloging your DVD collection whether they be feature films/documentarys, music videos, collections of shorts or interactive games on DVD. DVD Profiler is not a movie profiler. If this were a movie profiler then we could enter data for any film whether or not it has ever been released to DVD, VHS or Laserdisc excluding any special features or bonus materials since movies don't come with these goodies.

Max, does your comment refer to mine? Since I've said almost the same thing on my first post (not explain like yours), my last response was just an answer to Karsten. The sofware that I've linked is a movie profiler (DVD, VHS, ...) that's what I think the original topic opener ask for.

Locally, there is no problem to do that. I use DVD profiler as a great movie profiler program.

His question was just about the possibility to add a new profile more easily than manually.
