| Posted: | | | | Concerns about HD Covers with no banners. Quoting Ken Cole: Quote:
Set the case type to one of the hd case types, without a sleeve, to have the banners applied. After downloading accepted rescanned HD Covers, submitted without the banner, I notice that the optional banner is only applied to the title that is being viewed at the time. When you print a report like a "Front Contact Sheet" page, the banners are OMITTED, even if the banners are applied in program. This is also true for the DVD Profiler "Online Collection" webpages. It is important that the printed report picture scans have the banners when chosen, more so than the main program itself, for realtime identification of ALL HD discs, when report sheets are used and also for the "Online Collection" pages, when used for reference away from the program. Not quite yet, I'll update the rules and inform the evaluators of the change when the public release is imminent. HD image scans, without the banners, are already being accepted. i.e. "Underworld: Unrated" (Blu-ray) UPC#043396216143 Without the above, the optional banners are very useless and not a solution. Hope scans of HD covers without banners are not readily accepted until this can be worked out. Thanks for listening. Paul | | | Last edited: by Paul Hillenbrand |

| Posted: | | | | Good points, the banners clearly need more widespread implementation. However, this would probably be more effective in feature requests or the big thread in the rules forum. For one thing, there is no current rule either way, scans both with and without banners are readily accepted dependent upon the most important factor, which is of course quality. Seems to me that the main reason for the upcoming rule to exclude banners is because people are feeling obligated to include them and going through the lazy step of simply scanning with the insert still in the case, resulting in a loss of overall quality. The actions of a small but active number of HD and BD owners have given a lot of people the impression that the banners are necessary, which has never been true, and soon will be very false, as is logical and consistent.
Anyway, back to the main point, which has already been covered; the bannerless replacement scans are NOT going to be submitted until Ken gives the go-ahead, which won't be until all issues are settled. Which is why this needs to be raised in a more effective fashion, requesting inclusion of the banners in the areas you describe instead of trying to quash the progression of the ruling on the scans themselves. Which, if people had addressed this properly in the first place (i.e. asking for Ken to make more suitable arrangements all around, instead of trying to force against the established rules and traditions), then this whole mess would be long behind us already. |
