We need to determine the common name of this actor. His full name is William Morgan Sheppard.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._Morgan_Sheppard
http://www.filmreference.com/film/92/William-Morgan-Sheppard.html
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0792003/

However, in my experience I have never seen him credited as William Morgan Sheppard. I own quite a few DVDs with this actor, and he is credited either as Morgan Sheppard (especially in UK productions) or as W. Morgan Sheppard (especially in US productions) at a 1:1 ratio. However, one name must be chosen.

I have done a search using the credit lookup tool. It's important to know that his "IMDB name" is William Morgan Sheppard, and that many (if not all) of his credits found using the credit lookup tool have been taken from IMDB.

The results of my search:
*William Morgan Sheppard  -  153 titles/252 profiles
*W. Morgan Sheppard        -  81 titles/133 profiles
*Morgan Sheppard            -  47 titles/68 profiles

This shows that W. Morgan Sheppard is by far the most commonly used of the 2 "non-IMDB" names.

Whatever he's most credited as, I believe that's "W. Morgan Sheppard".

Are you suggesting that a name cannot be used in DVDP if it's also found in in IMDb?

Anyway, WMS is referenced as "William Morgan Sheppard" not only on IMDb and in Credit Lookup, but also on
http://www.filmreference.com/film/92/William-Morgan-Sheppard.html

and

Besides, from the "Working guidelines" in the pinned "Common Names" thread
Quote:

5. If possible do not include initials in the Name where a full name is known (example: John Paul Sanderson not John P. Sanderson) However a person who only uses initials is fine (D.B. Sweeney)

So, the question would be: does WMS "only use initials"? If that's the case, I would agree with you on  the "W., otherwise I would go for "William".

I'm only suggesting that if we are to use the name he is actually most commonly credited as, then William Morgan Sheppard may not be the ideal name to use. I'm not contending that this is his full name, but he doesn't seem to be credited as such in his movies. I actually contributed a few profiles with William Morgan Sheppard as common name when the "credited as" function was introduced, but later I re-contributed these profiles removing the common name, since I found that he wasn't actually credited as William Morgan Sheppard in any of my DVDs (I think I own about 10-12 DVDs where he is featured.)

As far as I understand, according to the Guidelines in the Common Names thread, the full name should be used when possible, unless the person "only uses initials": in that case, I would agree on  the "W.", otherwise I guess we should use the full name.

Here's a link to an interview with his son, Mark Sheppard:

Mark: My father is the actor W. Morgan Sheppard. I guess it kind of runs in the Family.

Editor's Note: W. Morgan Sheppard is William Morgan Sheppard, who many Sci-Fi fans may know him as the actor who played "The Soul Hunter" on "Babylon 5".

So his son calls him W. Morgan Sheppard, not William Morgan Sheppard, suggesting that he "only uses initials".

If so, I wouldn't object to "W. Morgan Sheppard".

It seems we have a winner?  Unless anyone has any strong objections, W. / Morgan / Sheppard it is! EnryWiki, could you update this in your post in the Common name thread, if you agree?

I did the exact same thing! He really seems to be mostly credited as W. Morgan Sheppard, with a number of older credits as Morgan Sheppard. Credits using the full "William" are few and far between. I also consider the fact that the credit lookup tool (while once again mostly displaying IMDb-data) already shows 133 profiles using W. Morgan Sheppard a strong nod in the right direction.

I just asked out of curiosity
I guess there's a Nativity in the upper lunette and some animal (a bear?) underneath.

Yeah, that's about what I see up close too.

When just taking a quick glance from a distance, it resembles an Ewok to me

I recently sat through the credits of all 13 episodes of Stephen King's "Kingdom Hospital", where my profile and a number of other profiles list "William Morgan Sheppard" as being credited as "Narrator". What I noticed was that he is not credited in ANY of the episodes as ANYTHING. An actor called Bill Meilen (official website: http://billmeilen.com) IS however credited as "Narrator" in Episode 1; this I've verified from the actual credits of that episode. (Meilen is also credited in some of the other episodes, but then he does not have a role name attributed; I have identified him both visually and from his official website, though, as playing Dr. Egas Gottreich and Dr. Klaus Gottreich in these episodes.)

I do not know whether it is mr. Meilen or mr. Sheppard who is the narrator of episodes 2-13. I have not, however, found ANY evidence that Sheppard was involved in this series, apart from him being credited on IMDB (and thus propagated to several other 3rd party databases).

Anyway, I just thought I'd let this be known, so that people who have this TV series in other regions have the opportunity to check their DVDs and then delete his name from the credits if he's not actually credited there either, and then hopefully submit their profile to the online database so that the incorrect "William Morgan Sheppard" credits are removed. (Alternatively, if you can find PROOF that he's really the narrator, check the "uncredited" box and contribute it). Like I've said earlier, I've yet to actually see him credited with his full name in any movie - he is either credited as W. Morgan Sheppard or as Morgan Sheppard.
