So I have been out of the loop a while.  Often in the past when I reformatted my computers etc I wouldn't worry about about my online collection file as I would just reinstall DVD Profiler and then download it from DVD Profiler Online.

But now with the switch I do not have a back up file, and now I only have the new 3.1 instalation.  I want to download my online collection so that I don't have to reinput every DVD I own by hand but have no clue how.  I still can view my profile is I go to the old web page, but under my profile on invelos it says I do not have an online collection.

What do I need to do in order to put my old collection into the new 3.1 software?  I have read the faq about taking the old backup file and using that...but as I reformatted and don't have anything now but the new 3.1 instalation what do I need to do?

Thank you

If you don't already have version 2.4 or 2.5 installed, download and install it from intervocative.com, and version 3 from www.invelos.com.
Next, if you don't already have your collection in your local copy of 2.4/2.5, use the My Profiler feature in that version to download your collection from InterVocative.

From version 2.4/2.5, select File->Backup Profile Database. You can select a location on your local hard drive.
From version 3, select File->Restore Profile Database. Select the file you selected in the back up step above

Install 2.4,, bring back back your library to your PC,, then  backup your .dpb to your harddrive.., then install 3.1.., then reinstall your saved backup from your HardDrive..

Then upload your 3.1 to on line site and keep your saved dpb on your HD at all times.. Most PC's these days have 80 to 320 GB  of space so there shouldn't be a problem as your Saved files on your PC is exactly your own spec's and cover images.. The Backup on the Invelos site is your library to its UPC code and it own cover images..

Be aware that Invelos now looks for 12 digit UPC and not ten as in the past so there may be some mild tweaking to get the odd one setup. Most of the 10 digit codes will be upgraded to 12..during this transfer.
After all is fine.. dump 2.4.. and its software entirely..,  and visit Invelos at least once a week for all new updates and and forum chit chat..

Thank you.  For some reason it didn't let me redownload my old one the first time I tried and I thought I was in trouble.  But that worked perfectly and thank you again.

So their is no way to download your collection to 3.1 other than re-adding an older version?
Seems silly to have to do it this way, isnt their an easier way?

Nope. When Invelos was founded and DVD Profiler 3 released the 2-Version still was owned by Intervocative, so a direct access to the onlinelist of their users was out of the question.

No, and frankly I don't see why there should be one. The vast majority of user have switched from v2 to v3 via the backup long ago, so only a few odd ones out who neither have made a backup nor have the old version still installed are affected by this.

Not to mention that it is fairly easy to quickly install the 2.4, get the list, make a backup and de-install it. Would have cost you not much more time than writing your posting.

@kohlersc

I would strongly recommend that once you've gotten your 3.1 collection the way you want it that you use the Backup function instead of relying on your Online collection for backup purposes.  Believe me, it really is a more functional way of doing it - and you will be able to recover all the field data from your collection.  The online collection does not include every element of your local database - like notes, hi-resolution covers, tags.

The Online Collection is fine for what it is - a way of displaying your database online - and to allow other people to view your collection.  In a pinch it can work to recover lost data for your local database.  But it's not the ideal way to do backups.

When you use the backup function you can save the resulting backup file to a CD or flash drive - something apart from your computer - so if your computer crashes you won't lose it all.  Put the CD away in some safe place.

It doesn't take long to backup even a large database with large image files.  I generally set the backup process in motion and then go to bed.  When I wake up next morning, the database has been backed up and I'm safe for another day.  (It takes about 10 minutes, I'm guessing, to backup my 5000-title database.  I'm guessing because I haven't recently timed it.)  But, believe me, it's worth it.
