| Posted: | | | | I'm a little confused about the titles in this collection.
I see that "Hamlet" is listed as "William Shakespeare's Hamlet". Not "Hamlet". Also, not "William Shakespeare's Hamlet A Kenneth Branagh Film"
But, "Romeo and Juliet" is listed as "Romeo and Juliet". Not "William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet", even though that appears above the title, just as "Hamlet".
Similar (but not identical) ambiguity would seem to exist for "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and "Othello".
Question: Regarding "Hamlet" and "Romeo and Juliet", which title(s) is/are correct?
Thank you.

| Posted: | | | | Regarding Hamlet, I suspect he is referring to Brannagh's Hamlet. The ONLY reference to Shaespeare is in the title, there is no OMB Shakespeare. All Brannagh did was move the film forward several centuries, it is the FIRST time that Shakespeare's entire play has been filmed. Possessives are perfectly all right. I can't speak to the others he mentioned.
The Rules say to take the title from the film's credits, though we have some users trying to apply arcane Rules to this that only to serve to complicate and confuse the situation.

Also, not "William Shakespeare's Hamlet A Kenneth Branagh Film" Hamlet is correct. I've been meaning to fix it. The opening credit sequence is "William Shakespeare's" over a black screen followed by "Hamlet" over a castle gate scene. The credit block on the back of the box lists the title in quotes as just "Hamlet". The menus say "Hamlet". This is clearly a possessory credit. | | | ...James

| Posted: | | | | DG, I've uploaded the correction which you should find in your voting queue now: Quote: Correcting the title to Hamlet.
The opening credits first show "Williams Shakespeare's" over a black screen: Link Followed by the title "Hamlet" etched into a wall: Link "Hamlet" is also shown alone as the title without the possessory credit on the spine: Link And on the disc menu: Link And in the credit block and copyright notice on the back cover: Link

| Posted: | | | | Fix it and i will vote No, There is no other credit for Shakespeare, stop trying to impose YOUR will on the database. This IS William Shakespeare's hamlet NOT Ken Brannagh's.
As I noted you are creating so much spin to validate YOUR opinion i6t is impossible to enter the data. STOP IT

| Posted: | | | | There is no sense in even discusing this, you are wrong Lopek and lyoinsden5 PERIOD. Some education might help. But I'll NOT be the teacher.
Especially whenb said users have no clue what theyu are talking about since they don't yet own the title and therefoer are simply making a GUESS based an assumption. Try looking both the film and it's matching coffee table in Amazon.

What does one have to do with the other? The fact that Shakespeare is not listed in the credits doesn't mean he should be listed in the title. Apples and oranges. Quote: This IS William Shakespeare's hamlet NOT Ken Brannagh's. This might come off sounding sarcastic, so I apologize in advance, but this is not William Shakespeare's Hamlet. Shakespeare has been dead a very long time and had nothing to do with this film...not to mention the fact that this film is set in the 19th century. Quote: As I noted you are creating so much spin to validate YOUR opinion i6t is impossible to enter the data. STOP IT The same could be said about your 'spin'. I mean, come on, his name should be included in the title because he isn't credited anywhere else? Are you serious? The back of the case says, "Castle Rock Entertainment presents "Hamlet"" not, "Castle Rock Entertainment presents "William Shakespeare's Hamlet"."
