| Posted: | | | | Is anyone else seeing a lot of contributions come throu with a lot of song writers in them? I know some songs are written for the movie, but a lot are not. According to the rules, we are only to list song writers for songs written only for the movie.
How are we supposed to know which is which? |

| Posted: | | | | It's very hard to know if a song was written specifically for a movie. So in general, I do not add songwriters. I'll stick to composers only. | | | View my collection at http://www.chriskepolis.be/home/dvd.htm

| Posted: | | | | I think if you see in the credits for the song "Courtesy of" it probably was not written for the film. |

| Posted: | | | | When I run into a profile that has tons of song writers, I search each song credited in the end credits on All Music Guide. Many times, you will find that the song (with the same writer) was released on an album years before the film was made. Some times, it is obvious that the song could not have been written for the film since the song writer has been dead for a very long time (especially classical). If I can not find the song at all, or it is only listed as being on the soundtrack album, I won't delete them since I have no way of knowing. I found this credit in The 6th Day (excerpt from contribution notes last March) Quote: - Mildred J. Hill (credit is Mildred Hill) and Patty S. Hill (credit is Patty Hill) as Song Writers, their credit is for "Happy Birthday to You", hardly an original song for this film. I am generally don't add songs that I can not find other references to, but I have in cases where there is a lot of "contemporary" music that makes up the soundtrack. Karate Kid II was one where I could not find the songs except soundtrack albums and most of the song writers were credited before I did the audit, so I left them in and added the missing ones. | | | Kevin |
