so yeah hi

Yeah i'm new here and just waiting for my paypal thing to process. And i just started seriously indexing my collection since it took me an hour to find my shrek dvd. I'm still learning a lot about the abilities of this wonderfull program. And i basicly found some stuff that could improve the program.

When i personalize my information i would love to get a dropdown menu like the retailer/purchase place dropdown menu. For example i have the following locations.
2 boxes for stuff i hardly ever watch.
a glass display case for my special collector editon boxes.
a main cupboard for the most watched movies
a chest of drawers where i still have some old vhs tapes and dvd's

Yes when you add just 1 dvd it's oke but if your trying to add multiple it's a lot of work. If you could just use a dropdown menu this could speed up the process a lot. Of course this would work for the Slots and i wouldn't even want a dropdown menu for that one.

-------------

More modify flagged options like:
-Location
-Price
-Purchase date.

Basicly mass personalize info changing?  I did search/read that it isn't a big favorite because of possible errors. However i think it would be amazing for just personal data.

-------------

Modification to the Retailer/Purchace place dropdown menu.

Remove the edit retailers button and move it to another location. I think the dropdown menu should just be the options not the edit button.

Maybe it's a bit far for some people but i would like to see see the online/local submenu removed. I would just prefer to name a store with an extra -O or -L at the end to make the difference if i really have to. Personally i just remember most places i get my dvd's from.
Store-L or Store-O for local and online and select it from just 1 menu. Going to the submenu just irritates me a bit since i know if it's online or not.

------------

Sorry if it's allready been posted or going in the next beta/version/etc. It's just some things that i noticed when i added a bunch of dvd's today.

Ps. sorry for the possible spelling errors.

You should explore the Program some more. Most of what I see you inquiring about can be found in DVD/Personalize, you will discover Purchase Location, Price and Date there and you will also discover that there is a place to for your storage locations. You might also explore the tag system some.

I prefer them split. I have a long list and it's easier to select if it's broken down by categories.

I don't think you really understond what i was trying to say. Maybe it's because of my english(it's not my first language).

I allready found the tag list and the personalize dvd menu And i am using the disc location and slot items. What i'm trying to suggest is to add a dropdown menu to the disc location instead of a blank edit box.

I use this:
-Box1(moving box with old crap.)
-Box2
-Ladenkast(chest of drawers) with slots(drawers)
-Display
-Kast(Cupboard)

Instead of typing it i would find it handy to get a dropdown menu that works like the Purchase Place/Retailer one. I could create tags for each location and filter like that however i think it would be better to use the option that is created for it(Disc location/Slot).
You can set the Location column in the collection list/disc list or view it from the disc window and i'm guessing you can also call it from a custom html window(still reading and playing around with that)

------

If you flag some discs and go to Collection -> Flagged -> Edit Tags. You can change the tags on a lot of dvd's at once. I was trying to suggest something like this for the Location/Purchase Price/ Purchase Date/ Purchase Location. Almost Like Mass editing. I know it's not really needed to edit the purchase location/price when you allready have a big database however if your starting to fill it up this could really speed up the process. Especially the location part.

Like i said before this would Just be for personal information.

------

and the last one is a suggestion to change the purchase location menu. Basicly remove the online/local Subsection and remove the edit retailers option since you can allready access that from the Tools menu.

So yeah i hope this is clear enough

Do you know that you don't have to select the retailer from the dropdown menu?
All you have to do is start typing in the name, move away from the field and the program fills in the rest of the name regardless of which list it's on. If there's more than one match it asks which one you meant.

I quite like the idea of the location field having a dropdown list, so you don't have to retype your most common location all the time - so I support that idea!

The ability to mass-edit personal info like purchase date etc. has been asked for before and is still a good idea.

And welcome to the madhouse!

I didn't know about the auto complete and yeah it's nice.

And yeah for the mass-edit personal info like location will make moving dvd's to a new storage place much easier :D

Dont forget though that some people (like myself) have a location entry for each dvd, ie. each dvd in a specific location not just a certain number of dvds in a location.  As long as it didnt interfere with that I'd have no problem.

Isn't the location just for a general area and the slot to specify where it is. Like a big cupboard(Don't even know if cupboard is the right name but that's how it translates from dutch) with 5 shelfs and you list your DVD with location cupboard slot 2(as in second shelf). At least that is how i see it and use it

If you have a seperate number for say each dvd like the collection numbers yeah that could cause some trouble. If you create a menu like the retailers where you have to have the retailer in your menu or it gives an error.

Actually, Macee, if memory serves the whole Location/Slot idea was actually evolved from Mega Changers, however since it is personal data, it means what it means to you. Some people use the numbering system for this purpose as well. For example Case 1 Shelf 3 Slot(Location) 16 would be Collection Number 1316. It is whatever works for you, you could use tags to define it or anything you want.

I use tags for location. This way I can filter and have only need to tick the checkbox when assigning a location. Also re-assigning is more comfortable this way.
