We're a library in a film school environment, and it would be really useful for our students to have an overview of our DVDs based on the director. Personally I don't see how that feature can't exist, but it seems not to.

Do you think there's any way it can be done with DVD Profiler?

Unfortunately Reports are normally generated based on how your collection is sorted and cast & crew currently is not a sort option.

There is a CSV Export Plugin available in the Plugins thread that you can use to export your collection to .csv format and open in MS Excel and sort it there by Director...just delete the columns you don't need. Of course this report would be text only as the CSV Export Plugin does not export the images.

Be advised, the CSV Export Plugin requires that MS .NET Framework 2.0 be installed on your system.
