PowerDVD reports "Dolby Digital 1.0", while the cover says "mono".
Should I contribute "Dolby Digital Mono"? | | | -- Enry |

| Posted: | | | | There seem to be two types of mono - mono 1.0 where all the sound comes from the centre speaker, and mono 2.0 where the same sound is sent to both left & right speakers. As far as I know we can't input mono 1.0 into Profiler, so plain mono will be fine. |

| Posted: | | | | Audio is mono when all channels produce exactly the same sound. So, this has nothing to do with the amount of channels used. | | | Martin Zuidervliet

| Posted: | | | | I know that you know that, I only meant that 2.0 can be stereo, but it can also be surround (decoded into 3 or 4 channels) or mono. It al depends how the sound processor separates them. However 1.0 is always just mono. | | | Martin Zuidervliet

Is it right, that the sound comes only from the center speaker, even if it's dolby digital 2.0 Mono? I do not see (hear the difference between DD 1.0 and DD 2.0 Mono??) | | | Thorsten | | | Last edited: by kahless |

If your receiver decodes Dolby Digital and you don't have any 'custom' sound processing enabled then by default DD 1.0 should come thru the center channel and DD 2.0 thru the front Left/Right channels, ignoring the center speaker. It will still be Monophonic but will sound better, assuming your L/R speakers are better than the center channel. This is how my receiver works. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |

| Posted: | | | | When using dolby pro logic the left and right channels are merged through the center speaker if they are mono. This is a way to distinguish 2.0 stereo/surround from 2.0 mono. | | | Martin Zuidervliet

Fully agree, but just posting to add that my receiver has the option to put 2.0 mono through the centre or 1.0 through the front L/R if I want it to, but by default 1.0 should be centre only and 2.0 l/r. FWIW all 5 of my speakers are identical so I don't use the options to try to get a 'better' sound using the preferred speakers. | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

So I should just change these settings to enable dual mono with l/r front speakers. | | | Thorsten | | | Last edited: by kahless |

I can select a dozen or more custom sound fields but like you i let the receiver send the channels to their default speakers. That work's fine 99.9% of the time. And it detects Pro Logic when embedded in a DD 2.0 signal as well and spreads the sound appropriately. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |
