Do you think it's appropriate to use 'credited as' for a Tenacious D credit?

The credits say "Music By: Tenacious D" and I was considering adding the credit as:

Jack Black (Credited As: Tenacious D) - Song Writer
Kyle Gass (Credited As: Tenacious D) - Song Writer

What do you think?

Edit: I mispelled Kyle Gass and can't change it in the poll, but you know what I mean.

I thought Tenacious D was a person.

See response two up.

Directly from the Rules:

"Take Crew Credits from the film credits only; list names exactly as they are in the credits"

(bolding as in the Rules)

Also directly from the rules.

Considering that Jack Black appears in movies under his own name and as part of this duo, I think it's important to have linkage.  I've seen more tenuous linkages.  I also think the "The Wachowski Bros" example is an important one to consider.  Using "credited as" lists the names as they appear in the credits, but still allows linkage.  I don't see other people's problem with this.

I agree. By using the 'As credited' field all information is included from the credits and linkage is retained.

Neither "Tenacious D" nor "The Wachowski Brothers" qualify as a "person", therefore that Rule does not apply.

Are you suggesting taking a single credit and creating two (or more) new ones from that one?

That would undoubtedly be a personal preference in a major way!!!!!

Have to agree with Hal here. Splitting the band up into individual members is not what the field is for. Jack Black is not credited as Tenacious D, his band is.

Don't forget, cast and crew still doesn't link. Not sure if it ever will. Even if you change a "Music By" credit from Tenacious D  to Jack Black [Tenacious D] it will not link up with his acting roles.

I agree with Hal and Rick.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

What if a band performed the music?  You wouldn't list every member of the band, you'd list just the band.  In effect, this is the case here.

I agree, for online db purposes the credit should only read "Tenacious D". It's the band's name, it's well known (amongst those into this music, that is, my brother wouldn't even know how to pronounce this...) and it's common to credit songwriting to the band a s a whole if all members of said band share equal parts of the songwriting process.

Locally, you can set it up any which way you like. I, for example, set up my music DVDs in the fashion of using a divider for the band name and adding the individual band members underneath. Siince this is currently not covered by the rules, I don't submit those, but if this ever should be entered into the rules, I'm ready and Hard Rock and Metal DVDs will look a lot better in DVDP's online db.
