One of the working assumptions we have in the List of Common Names thread is:

1. If a person is sometimes credited with a nickname in the middle of their name in quotes, the common name does not include it (example Robert Zajonc not Robert 'Bobby Z' Zajonc)

Question: Should we do include nicknames in the common names? Always, sometimes, never?

As I said in the other thread, if that is how he is known it doesn't make any sense to remove it.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

In terms of searching, it doesn't really matter if we include it or not. You can't search on the middle name alone but you can search on first or last on their own or together with or without the middle name.

Therefore I would say we should normally add it because it doesn't affect searching but may help to distinguish from other cast/crew with similar names.

I agree with Gadgeteer here. Since it doesn't affect searching, I say include it. (I feel the same way with middle initials too. The inclusion of them doesn't hurt anything and it adds to the usability)

I suppose what we have to think about is what would most people use to search for an actor?
If you think that most people would search on a person's nickname then I guess we need the nickname in there.
